--------------------GEV List Thingy, April 17th-------------------- From: Steve Jackson Subject: Re: GEV List Thingy, April 16th. To: "Henry J. Cobb" Re the value of GEV-PCs - You didn't try to use them in a battle-line role, did you? They're not supposed to be first-wave assault units... ___ [It was the ordinary GEV's that did poorly, you'd expect two GEVs defending downtown to get a least one light tank, no? The Hoverblitz makes a very nasty weapon. Pull up to range one in your first movement phase and fire at strength four, reducing the enemy, and then follow up with a four unit overrun. (This is where the GEV-PC plus 3xInf has a big advantage over two GEV's, the defender has twice as many targets to shoot at during that crucial first fire round). Speaking of overruns, the rules for Ogre and Structure overruns are adding extra complexity. Why not just limit each "overrun" phase to two combat rounds? (If I hop up & down on something with nukes for a minute, and don't break it, I don't see any reason it couldn't just move away...) This would have the effect of a pullback defense, the enemy overruns you and you both survive, so on your movement round you pull back to normal weapon range, so as to not give him first fire in your overrun phase. (Might need to require that overruns stop further movement. This would "bunch up" the attackers (non-GEV) for artillery fire. And might lead to overruns by slower units so that the faster ones could "break through" the breach in the line, hmm...) Speaking of structures, how's bout overruns INTO buildings, or would this require Battlesuit? (And when will we see that again?)
