(maybe >Steve's waiting for the formula before putting out Killing Zone? ;-) No, we're waiting on confirmation that we can do the minis before proceeding with Killing Zone. Right now we are exploring both injection molding and resin casting. If anybody out there can recommend a quality-oriented injection molder who would like to do lots of little bitty tanks, please contact me! Steve Jackson, sj@io.com - this will do till I fix my .sig file . . . ------------------------------ From: grendel@cdsnet.net To: hcobb@io.com Subject: Using BattleTech minis In reply to Peter S Rabinowitz's question, the only BattleTech vehicle mini that we use is the Rommel/Patton. It makes a great Mark I OGRE. We also enjoyed the French Light Missle Tank, the remark about natural French superiority was a nice reminder that the OGRE universe is founded in FICTION! ;) ----- From: Peter Von Groote Subject: Using BattleTech minis To: hcobb@io.com First, I'm under the understanding from Rich that Killing Zone will be released -after- the new minis hit market. That way, people wouldn't be waiting for them to come out after buying the supplement. BTW, I saw some the prototypes at GenCon last year and were very good. I hope they work as well in plastic. Second, and more to topic, BattleTech Minis. Peter Rabinowitz was curious as to which ones to use. Well, this is what we've come up with: LGEV Savanah Master GEV J. Edgar or Pegasus MSL Hunter HVY Vedette or Rommel/ Patton SHVY Demolisher MHWZ Marksman MIL Kurita/ Davion Infantry INF Clan Elemental Infantry For the rest, its almost anything goes. There aren't alot of good analogs. We find that some of the Games Workshop Imperial Guard Superheavies work as stopgap SHVYs, but they're pricey. We suppose that the old Centurion minis will work as Combine GEVs, especially the Lupus, and Viper types. Wolverine and Aneas class Light Tanks might also work. I think that Simtac also does a line of sci-fi metal that has hovers, but I'll need to check on that one and get back to you. I hope that this helps. Peter von Groote IV for Kampfgruppe Tiger ----- [My latest pack of BattleTech Minis is the SRM Carrier, which has a low flat body a lot like a Missile Tank (including the observation cylinder), but mounting an expanded MLRS box as a turret, this gives a very high profile, but that might be OK in a support vehicle. I take this as being an alternative design for the MHWZ. (You avoid the single point of failure in the mass driver, at the cost of needing a booster stage on each missile to get it up to speed). As for the Kurita Infantry pack, slightly less than half the stands have more heavily armored figures, all of which have flat faceplates and large backpacks. I take these to be infantry and the rest Militia. (Thus the pack provides a standard Battalion of Infantry as well as a reinforced Militia Battalion) As everybody has failed to point out, the Militia's maximum grip speed is exactly the road speed of the Light Tank, and so almost every Light Tank should carry a squad. (In single squads, Militia have the same effective defense as infantry, on top of a tank they're the same speed and they have the same attack factor) A Light Tank carrying a Militia squad almost always does as well (and mostly better) as a Heavy Tank (without hood ornaments) in overruns, and costs only two thirds as much. (for both units combined) I will have much more to say about Infantry transport and defense, as well as special tactics for Minis they didn't teach you in the board game, later. (Dang! in just two months running this list I've managed to get a month behind!) -HJC] Henry J.
