=============== OGRE/GEV list, May 15th (Last: May 12th) =============== ===== Threading lightly From: sdorr@ix.netcom.com (Scott David Orr) ------------------------------ To: "Henry J. Cobb" From: sdorr@ix.netcom.com (Scott David Orr) Subject: Threading lightly >(Main & Secondary battery >intercepts will risk stripping the guns much quicker than the threads >will go when the missile "falls down, goes boom!") Henry, I'm curious as to why you always spell "tread" as "thread" -- in some English dialects (e.g., Irish) "thread" is pronounced like "tread", but I've never seen the thing on a tank called a "thread", and I can't such a spelling in either of my dictionaries. Scott Orr ----- [It's because they don't have chain drives! (Silly garage door opener commercial quote deleted) But I guess that Tread is enough of a pun itself, as both Sci-Fi and Fantasy Ogres tread heavily upon the Earth. Speaking of watching one's step; "Excuse me, but your treads are on my neck". Yes, it's Starship Troopers, the movie. (see: http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/9605/13/hw.min/index.html) I wonder if they'll rerelease the game at the same time? Ogre could be a movie too, if only we had an Ogre novel to wave under the noses of Hollywood, but that would take some additional background material, like: The First Law of Ogrebotics: Kill the enemy. The Second Law of Ogrebotics: Obey the command chain, as long as this does not contradict the first law. The Third Law of Ogrebotics: preserve thyself in fighting order, as long as this does not contradict the first two laws. Yes, I know, Asimov's ghost will come to haunt me for that one. -HJC] Henry J.
