============ OGRE/GEV list, Aug 20th (Last: Aug 18th) ============= ===== Ogre Stats From: Highway Star ===== GURPS War Against the Chtorr/Ogre From: "R. Souza" ------------------------------ From: Highway Star Subject: Ogre Stats >From: sorcerer@cport.com (Jim Skinner) > My main interest now is to convert the ORGEs into Heavy Gear stats. It >doesn't really fit with the Heavy Gear universe, but it would be fun to have >Gears fight against OGREs. Has anyone already done the conversions? You could fit it into the HG universe, but not necessarily on Terra Nova. There are other planets out there - maybe one of them since getting cut off from Earth developed a BPC style armor. Being of much less, ahem, interesting terrain as Terra Nova it developed as a more "slug it out" type of warfare, not the guerrilla-esque warfare of Heavy Gear. Set up events so either Earth invades (using some of their own versions of Gears after the debacle on Terra Nova) or even farther in the future, when the fanatics of the North try to invade (hey, I'm a southie, okay?) another planet to spread the teachings of Mamoud. > I've been digging through my old gaming books and couldn't find the rule >book for OGRE or GEV, all I managed to find was _The_OGRE_Book_. Do you have >the stats for the Mk III and Mk V OGREs? To the best of my memory, a Mark V >has 2 mains, 6 secondaries, 6 missiles, and 12 AP guns. I have no idea what >a Mk III has (best guess is 1 main, 4 secs, 4 missiles, and 8 AP). Aren't there rules for weapons of mass destruction in the rules book? You might even want to just try to convert the guns as closely as possible. Make the AP guns HMGs, make the secondaries heavy field guns, make the missiles up-powered HAGMs, make the main batteries real big and bad heavy field guns or heavy rail guns... > [You may want to take a look at the OGRE articles page first... > > http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/articles/ -HJC] (In case you haven't already) Marc A. Vezina of DP9 wrote two articles with mecha-style units for Ogre. However, they don't quite get the feel of Heavy Gear. Gears are 5-6 meters tall (IIRC, from the life size one at DragonCon) and aren't designed to slug it out but more like powered armor - a Gear is expected to act like an infantryman, not a tank. With their smaller size they would ambush Ogres, blast 'em with the autocannons, then try to disappear before the tac-nukes started flying. Unfortunately, if you convert them directly, the Gears won't hardly scratch the Ogre, and the Ogre would decimate the Gears. Ya better give 'em nuke-guns and BPC armor. Just MHO, of course, YMMV. Souza" Subject: GURPS War Against the Chtorr/Ogre I was finishing reading the War Against The Chtorr book, and I came up with an utterly fiendish idea..... GURPS Ogre/War Against The Chtorr. Sometime in the middle of the Final War, there's a wave of plagues that both sides blame each other on. This makes the war just a little worse. Then, people start dying..... Then the big worms appear.... You might say-"Chtorrans, Shmorrans! I'll run over them with my Ogre Mk VII!" Yes, right. Up until the worms start peeling BPC armor off your Ogres like tinfoil. Or the fact that six Ogre Mk VII can burn a mandella down to the ground, turn around and report back to base for repairs. And the mandella is already partially rebuilt before the Ogres come back out again. And the next attack will have something that eats Ogre treads or sensors or something.... Or what if an Ogre turns renegade..... Of course, battlesuited infantry might be able to stop a ravaging Chtorran from using them as lunchfood, but I wouldn't bet on it. And the war is still going on, and somebody might use the Chtorrans as a kind of anti-Ogre weapon. The conventional Ogre solution to a problem(overwelming firepower), will not work in this case. So, Ogres with the Descartes package might have to start thinking to solve the problems of how to stop the Chtorrans. And there are humans out there trying to solve the problems and not get eaten. If someone could make some Ogres for GURPS, that would be amusing to roleplay. Jon Souza NoDUI@worldnet.att.net PS-I'm looking for a copy of GURPS Uplift. Does anyone know where I can get one(my game store says that it's out of print)? ----- [I have a little problem with bio-nasties in an environment awash in hard rad. -HJC] Henry J.
