============ OGRE/GEV list, Aug 24th (Last: Aug 22nd) ============= ===== GEV tournament From: Chris Camfield ===== How to combine board game and minis? From: Sethkimmel@aol.com ------------------------------ From: Chris Camfield Subject: GEV tournament Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to run a non-miniatures, i.e. standard GEV tournament? I get the feeling that putting a whole bunch of people on one small board, with cardboard counters, isn't going to be a lot of fun. So that suggests an elimination tournament of some sort. Originally I was thinking of Raid, with each pair of players playing two games, switching sides. But I suppose Ceasefire Collapse would be fine and it wouldn't require a second game to be played, which would speed things up. (BRJ, "Blue Pariah") ----- [Yeah, but then you get seeding problems. Why not: Advanced Breakthrough, Advanced Ogre and Advanced Raid in that order? There are two games at each level and each player must play a different opponent at each step. (The players who played offense in the first Breakthrough game play defense in the second Breakthrough game, but against an opponent they haven't faced before.) The winner is the person who won the most games. (Break ties by level of victory and a playoff if needed.) The best thing about each of these scenarios is that none of them bog down and Breakthrough is always fast. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Sethkimmel@aol.com Subject: How to combine board game and minis? I have a question. How do you integrate the board game rules and the mini rules when there is a difference (usually Ogre pt. costs or the Fencer 2 sec guns or 4 guns quandry)? I noticed that a lot of the Ogre costs are different depending on if you look at Ogre minis or the Reinforcement pack. I think we need an official Steve Jackson ruling on what set of rules take precedence? Also I have a question on the GEV-PC point cost. I have seen it as 3 points in Shockwave (and it's addenda) and in the unit description of Ogre minis. I think mini's addenda also makes it 3 pts., but I think I've seen this board say it's 6 pts. I need an official ruling, as I use a lot of the beasties. I personally don't see a justification for 6pts., but I've been accused of being obtuse at times. I also think the Superheavy is fine as it is at 12 pts. (2 AP's and dies on an X, no chipping away at it like an Ogre). Also, then when I play boardgame GEV, does the Super get the APs like the Minis Super? Confused, Seth ----- [The mini rules apply and the board game is getting phased out. If you want errata, see: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/errata/ I'm thinking about an "Ogre Destroyer" that mounts a gun thats only really useful for attempting critical hits on other Ogres (There's not much point in putting a one meter wide hole in an infantry squad), but I seem to be missing the critical hits rule. -HJC] Henry J.
