============ OGRE/GEV list, Dec 15th (Last: Dec 13th) ============= ===== OGRE on the Web From: Garrett Briggs ===== They were expedient. From: sdorr@ix.netcom.com (Scott David Orr) ===== OGRE RPG/OGRE Minis From: OHara Walter ------------------------------ From: Garrett Briggs Subject: OGRE on the Web Thanks to Henry >[Not meaning to be dense or anything, but why not submit the material >directly for the OGRE site so that everybody can see it? They do seem to >be requesting submissions at the moment.] Sounds Great to me. In fact, I have some spare time to write this OGRE single-player game for our browser community(Netscape emphasized). I'm writing it in Java. I would like to hear from those interested in helping me test it and offer comments and suggestions. Even from the man himself - Steve. My ultimate goal is to have this on the Steve Jackson site for all OGRE fans to play and appreciate. The first item I have for the game is to be able to load the page into your browsers memory space and then you could disconnect if you wanted to - saving online time. I have a staging site ready to go and will put up content as soon as possible. And on another note: thank you to all who submit to this site and to Henry for keeping it going. I enjoy reading the news when I compile my work late at night at the Denver Tech Center here in Colorado. I must say, there's enough material to have already published a few extra thick books on OGRE (The Un-Official Players Guide Vols 1-3 ;) Which makes me want to start an OGRE 2000 campaign. That's when the old OGRE's stop functioning and there's a major overhaul to get them out into the retail market again. There's big potential for something like this and a clever marketing campaign. P.S. to my reply on the OGRE development game....I can also port this to the US Robotics/3Com PalmPilot device as well. ----- [Give the human player the OGRE. It should run faster. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: sdorr@ix.netcom.com (Scott David Orr) Subject: They were expedient. >As for the human wave tactic, Iran and Iraq used this against each other >in their '80s war, and they were and are well armed, well mechanized >armies.... Iran used it, but the reason they used it was because they WEREN'T well-armed or mechanized, which is the same reason China used it earlier. In all but the poorest, least developed societies, human beings are reasonably expensive--even in the Soviet Union, where humans were cheaper than machines (compared to the Wets), humans were expensive enough that the Soviet couldn't just treat them as completely expendable. Scott Orr ------------------------------ From: OHara Walter Subject: OGRE RPG/OGRE Minis >I already sent Mr. Meaden a partially finished (tongue-firmly-planted-in- >cheek) set of RPG rules for OGRE called "G.E.V. JOCKEY". Here's a >small sample: Was there ever a GURPS module set in the OGRE universe? There always seemed to be a wealth of detail there for a RPG, IMHO. If CAR WARS could manage a GURPS module, OGRE could. And you already have this nifty module for fighting out any tactical battles... On a tangent, the MECHWARRIOR miniatures game (FASA) generated a semi-succesful RPG. > From: Rich Shipley > I'm running an OGRE Miniatures scenario at Cold Wars in March. Oooooh (big intake of breath time). Please keep me posted on this, Rich. If there's a slot open (and it doesn't conflict with the stuff I'm running), I'd love to play.
