============ OGRE/GEV list, Dec 22nd (Last: Dec 20th) ============= ===== Coal in our stockings From: SFsupply ===== GURPS OGRE From: OHara Walter ===== OGRE on the Web From: Steve Jackson ------------------------------ From: SFsupply Subject: Coal in our stockings << What I'd really like to see for X-mas (say 2060 or so) is a master combined game with board and minis rules for OGRE/GEV/Battlesuit. I don't know how you'd package it though. A thick book with a thin map and counters doesn't package well. (Perhaps the maps and counters are on some sort of an insert?) Every unit would have stats listed for board game and minis play for both the GEV and Battlesuit scales. (The gamers might scream at shelling $30 for the evolution of a $4 game, but a fairly high-value, compact package might just find its way into a lot of shops.) -HJC] >> How about going for a big box format. With lotsa plastic minis incluing MK III and MK V Ogres, HVYs, MSLs, GEVs, HWZs, INF (both Combine and Paneuropean) and lotsa cardstock (or maybe even vacuformed, >hint, hint, wink, wink, Steve<) buildings (both intact and rubble-ized), bridges, roads and craters. Add in range rulers (or has GW got a patent on those or something?) counters, spillover templates, The main rulebook (the existing minis book would need just a tad of tweaking, -maybe breaking it into two seperate volumes. The rules and a background/scenario book), and finally, an "armies" organizational booklet (i.e. army lists for the various world powers with a system for constructing company through regiment size units utilizing the VP values of units.) Oh, and maybe some nice hexed mapsheets for optional play (maybe something in slick vinal?) Price: Maybe $45. to $55. ? The aborted Killing Zone supplement could be finally released in a smaller box with an expansion rule/scenario book(let), new minis (MK I, MK II, MK IV, Fencer and MK VI Ogres, LGEVs, LTs, MHWZs, SHVYs, ENGINEERS, HVY WPN INF and MARINES), new buildings, more bridges, roads and the addition of a train complete with a monorail-type track. Price: Perhaps around $35. ? Later supplements could concentrate on one (or more) world powers in the Ogre world. These could take the form of just books ("OGRE ARMY BOOK I, THE COMBINE " etc, etc.), or could be boxed supplements including the book, new minis (What does a Japanese HVY look like?) and a campaign/scenario booklet. Price: Book only, $15. Boxed supplement, $25. ? Additional plastic and/or metal minis could be sold (MSL GEV, MK III-B Ogre, LT HWZ, etc, etc.) in seperate blisters. With the MiB program now operating, any such releases could be demoed/supported massively at the retail level if advance copies could be passed out to the MiBers. Maybe I'm just wishing wistfully, but it seems to me that such a project could blow Epic 40K out of the water. (Nyahahahahahahahaaa) As for the prices mentioned above, these are the prices I would be willing to pay. I would definitely like to get feedback on this. Please email me with your thoughts. Lets see just how interested people really are about the (inevitable) re-release of Ogre. best, flunky P.S. Oh, yes. Battlesuit. Sorry, I never could get into that game. ----- [Well, why not the combination: Rumble, Rumble, Rumble! "What's that?" Flash! "Huh, did you see anything?" "Me neither." "Checkpoint X-ray, all clear." How do you hide something the size of a small building? You paint it black. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: OHara Walter Subject: GURPS OGRE >Lately, I've been playing Fallout ;) and having a blast. Too bad it didn't >have some Ogres to explore or do battle with. Perhaps Fallout 2... How close is this to GURPS (which I really like)? I heard Interplay and SJG had creative differences and the GURPS RPG on the PC project got the axe. Bummer. >How about someone making a GURPS Ogre-universe rpg game? Use that >hack program to start with... I think it's a great idea, myself... There's a pretty nifty thread in USENET (in rec.games.rpg.gurps or something like that) that somebody turned me onto recently... interesting concepts. ------------------------------ From: Steve Jackson Subject: OGRE on the Web >From: "Todd A. Zircher" >I wonder if I could build a Quake mod that would allow you >to assume the role of an OGRE? Watching the infantry bounce >about would be a hoot. I'm have to bounce this off of the >OGRE and Quake message boards tonight... Oh, right, ENCOURAGE people to rip us off so Micah and I have to shut them down and get nasty e-mail.
