============ OGRE/GEV list, January 9th (Last: January 7th) ============= ===== Disability Insurance From: RMeaden@aol.com ===== push comes to shove From: Forrest Aguirre ===== Campaign Rules From: kenneth c king ------------------------------ From: RMeaden@aol.com Subject: Disability Insurance Chris said: <> In this case, the already disabled GEV would be destroyed! Why? Always remember that a 'D' result ALWAYS destroys an already Disabled unit. (Rule 6.14). True, spillover fire will never kill an UNDISABLED unit, as the best result one can get in a Spillover situation is a 'D' result. HOWEVER, Spillover has the possibility of killing ALREADY DISABLED units. Multiple 'D' results will never extend the length of time an armor unit will remain Disabled in any situation - they only result in the elimination of the unit. Henry said: <<[Darn, the Web-errata doesn't correct the "never eliminated" comment in 6.08. -HJC]>> I don't see this as being a situation that truly demands errata. Always remember D+D=X in all situations involving armor units. Ogres, of course, are not affected by 'D' results, or multiple 'D' results for that matter :D. Keep on tankin'! Richard Meaden Ogre Line Editor - SJ Games ----- [HOWEVER, 6.08 specifically mentions single-point infantry, and as specific rules overrule general cases... -HJC] ----- From: garth.getgen@genie.com Subject: Disability Insurance You know, we may have played this wrong for years: we've always assumed that an "X" result in spillover converted to "D", and the second "D" (no matter what caused the first) kills the target unit. > [Darn, the Web-errata doesn't correct the "never > eliminated" comment in 6.08. -HJC] Then again, maybe we DID play it right by mistake. Garth L. Getgen ------------------------------ From: Forrest Aguirre Subject: push comes to shove Is it possible for a unit to "shove" (as per pg. 27 of OGRE mini's) a hulk into a unit that is using said hulk as hard cover. I realize this stretches the limits of scale, but it should be theoretically (and maybe even really) possible. How would you treat, say, the hulk of a GEV plowing into a herd of infantry or, better yet, militia? You couldn't really treat it as a ram, because the unit (the GEV) wouldn't be moving at its normal full speed. But wouldn't it do something besides just removing hard cover? Would the units under threat of being squished get to dodge? How would you resolve this? Ideas? ----- [You can't push in overruns (which this is, no?), as there is NO movement in overruns. (Simple, no?) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: kenneth c king Subject: Campaign Rules greetings: this is in reference to Stephen Said's question on campaign rules. i once had some, and sent them in on the old bbs system. one of my msgs is in the old bbs messages on the web page, but the more detailed one is not. i can't find any of that nature on my system (that was several hard drives ago), so i'm hoping that one of the other old timers has managed to keep hold of a copy. look for 'kc [751]' (should be a msg numbered in the early 50's on the web page...) in short, we borrowed from many of the old wargames, using 'fog of war' type rules for strategic scale movement. we made about a dozen tactical maps with base terrain types (mostly open, open/trees, mostly mixed, with big rivers, lake/ocean borders,...) and drew up a map that was the area under contest. each strategic map was much larger than the tactical map (like the gev map...), but that's where the fighting occured. each side divided a *huge* number of forces into 'groups' and deployed them. there were large goups and small groups. we allowed for electronic warefare by having a number of 'ecm' points that could be used to alter the size of the group from the actual size, or create a group where one was not. it makes deployment quite fun. it sucks when the group you thought was a little force or a dummy turns out to be a couple of ogres with an army of tanks and a bunch of ecm used to make it look small... :) >:} later, kc ------------------------------ Henry J.
