============ OGRE/GEV list, January 20th (Last: January 12th) ============= ===== Campaign Rules From: SFsupply@aol.com ===== Ogre Ramming Non-Ogres From: Steve ===== Strategic Rules. From: "Stephen A. Said" ===== GEV Ceasefire Collapse Game Ends From: peletier@grolen.com ------------------------------ From: SFsupply@aol.com Subject: Campaign Rules Interesting. I also worked on organizations for awhile. Mostly using a point value structure, with companies being either Armored, Infantry, Support or Transport. Battalions could be tailored to be Heavy Assault, Seige, Fast Recon, etc, etc. I think I'll dig out those old notes and pass 'em around if anyone's interested. flunky ------------------------------ From: Steve Subject: Ogre Ramming Non-Ogres Hello again Henry! Just wanted to drop a line. We had our first large Ogre battle (around 500 points per side) and all the players had a blast. Very bloody, very deadly game (hulks everywhere!) I had a question about Ogres ramming non-Ogre units. I couldn't find anywhere in the rules where it lists how many tread units are lost for the Ogre when it rams small armor units. In fact the only list for tread loss is when an Ogre rams another Ogre (or Super- heavy) Is it that smaller armor units just get an Overrun attack vs the Ogre only giving the Ogre a 'chance' of losing treads or weapon systems? This seems to favor the Ogre quite a bit! -Steve ----- [Steve did write that the damage from ramming small fry in the original game was in lue of the overrun rules, but I can't seem to find the reference right now. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Stephen A. Said" Subject: Strategic Rules. The input thus far has been good, spawning some really interesting ideas in my own mind. As far as tables of organisation are concerned, I spent some time with an Army Reserve friend of mine (Australian), and between the OGRE Miniature's suggestion for organisation, and my friends experience in the Armoured division, we put together some real spiffing TOE's. The are in Orgchart format if anyone is interested. Further, another issue we considered, was that of resources in an ongoing campaign. We set the period, after the great collapse, when europe degenerated into warring states. We focused on attempting to create a european map. We considered the location of automated factories, and ORGE production centres. We were wanting to assign output for various cities per month. The example is, Hamburg with 3,000,000 population, has an OGRE production facility (1 Per month with pre determined templates), can produce 50 points worth of armour, and 30 points worth of infantary per month as opposed to Munich which can produce 60 points worth of armour, and 40 points worth of infantary per month. Gee, which one should I attack? This is the kind of idea I was trying to develop (although the other idea's mentioned in previous postings were good, and I will include most of them!) Would there be a place for these kind of rules? Is anyone else interested in collaborating with me on them? Is this the right place to do it? Regards, Stephen Said PS: Has anyone developed, or does anyone know of mapping software? ------------------------------ From: peletier@grolen.com Subject: GEV Ceasefire Collapse Game Ends A game of Advanced Ceasefire Collapse, with Ogres, ended today in a "NO Clear Winner". Todd (zirto@indepth.com) had the West side of the board and Tom (sanddllr@erols.com) had the jagged East side. Each player opted to have an Ogre Mark V. Todd had all of his units (heavy tanks, Ogre, Infantry) within 6 hexes of his base at hex 0404. Tom had his units (GEVs, Lt Tnks, Mbl Hwtz) spread out from 1510 to 1818 with the Ogre at 1408. Tom sent in his Ogre alone towards the West. It managed to get in and fire and take out both CP's and Cities. Todd then took out Tom's Ogre. AND THAT WAS IT ! My critical assement: Due to the fact the Eastern zone was strung out like Sid and Nancy (RIP Punk Rockers) and the Western zone was one huge mass - it would have been possible for the entire Western strategy to attack the northeastern units in mass - a 2-1 advantage, and then move down to the Southeast to wrap up the entire eastern forces at a 2-1 roll the whole way. The opportunity lost was Todd's error in being too conservative when a possible 2-1 advantage was at hand. ------------------------------ Henry J.
