From: NODUI@worldnet.att.net ===== Scanning in Goliath From: Steve Jackson ------------------------------ From: NODUI@worldnet.att.net Subject: Ogreing Along On Treads or Gravs.... Just a series of points to be made, as I was sitting here thinking with my copy of Uncle Albert's Catalogue From Hell- *"How does one fight a war with TAC-NUKES and not turn the battlefield into a glass paved, self- lit parking lot?" Simple, you don't ALWAYS fight with tac-nukes. If you're target is in a direct-fire range, you use a direct fire round, such as ring penetrators or just solid-slugs from your railgun. Or, another option is that you're firing nukes, but you're rounds are collapsing nuclear rounds, using elements with half-lives measured in days or weeks that go up rather nicely when they impact on target. Third option-nukes are used only in missiles and howitzer shells. Everyone uses railgun rounds, because they pierce anything as light and as flimsy as dirt or trees. *With the Levitating Frog experiments going on with superconductive plates and such, it might be worth thinking about using gravity propultion instead of GEV or tracks for weapons such as Ogres, Heavy and Superheavy Tanks, and GEVs. While this would make fliers impractical, it DOES make large-scale space construction possible for things such as satellites and would make the "mobile firebase" concept of Ogres more practical, because they can MOVE out the way of something that was incoming. *Tweaking Rules? It might be worth someone developing rules to "tweak" the weapons, drives, and such on platforms, to give them more variety. Four more points, for example, could buy another inch of range on your weapons. More to come when I think of it. Jon ----- [See "Grav Armor". My favorite weapon is the solar-escape velocity railgun. (If you miss, you don't have to worry about the round falling back anywhere) Best of all, it's a non-radioactive (up to point of impact) fusion weapon. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Steve Jackson Subject: Scanning in Goliath >Awhile back, I said that I would send you the Goliath rules and some other >supplementary stuff from the Space Gamer issues I have. I never found those >magazines...until today! I can now fax you the information for those rules >so that you can add to your Ogre compilation webpage. cool, Richard Meaden is supposed to be scanning these in, but he hasn't done them yet. I will nag him. >Question: what are the odds of making an Ogre galactic empire style >computer multi-player turnbased wargame, like Emperer of the Fading Suns?
