============ OGRE/GEV list, March 1st (Last: February 25th) ============= ===== Ogre comments From: sj@io.com (Steve Jackson) ===== Regarding simulations... From: Chris Camfield ------------------------------ From: sj@io.com (Steve Jackson) Subject: Ogre comments Comments on Macrotures: Yep, Garth, they are great for display models - a set of these is the first thing you see when you walk into our offices. But they're even more fun to push around on the floor. John, Vinnie at DexCon (July) is talking to me about a Macrotures event. Is that with your units but without you? Re MIA info - An hour after sending that note, I found the file I was looking for, but it was not complete, so anything you folks learn out there, please pass it on. Re Crazy Egor's - GREAT place to find out of print games. Repeating that info: >mail order world-wide:1699 Hamlin-Parma T.L. Rd.,Hilton, N.Y.14468 >store:3047 W. Re the archives - Henry, once we get our new web server with its 4 gigs, we will be happy to move those over to the SJ Games machine if you like. Steve Jackson - yes, of SJ Games - yes, we won the Secret Service case Learn Web or die - http://www.io.com/sjgames/ - dinosaurs, Lego, Kahlua! The heck with PGP keys; finger for Geek Code. Fnord. ------------------------------ From: Chris Camfield Subject: Regarding simulations... I had a go at a bunch of simulations this morning; here are the rough results. (They're rough because it's a tough call of what to decide "happens" in some situations, e.g. what are the expected results from a salvo of 4 HVYs? 3 HVYs firing is easy; you'd expect 1 NE, 1 D, and 1 X.) 6 SHVYs getting the drop on 6 HVYs: all HVYs dead. 6 HVYs getting the drop on 6 SHVYs: all SHVYs dead, 1 (or perhaps 2) HVYs survive 6 SHVYs getting the drop on 9 HVYs: all HVYs dead, 5 or 6 SHVYs survive 9 HVYs getting the drop on 6 SHYVs: all SHVYs dead, all HVYs survive 6 SHVYs getting the drop on 12 HVYs: all HVYs dead, 4 SHVYs survive 12 HVYs getting the drop on 6 SHVYs: all SHVYs dead, all HVYs survive (Comment: SHVYs are obviously more likely to get the first salvo, since they have a longer striking range.) If 9 HVYs confront 6 SHVYs by putting 3 of them in front, the SHVYs can respond by attacking with 2 of their number, and keeping the rest of THEIR force behind. The sim goes a bit like this: 2 SHVYs go up to attack the 3 HVYs; they get 2 Ds and an X on them. 6 HVYs move up to attack the 2 SHVYs, killing them both. (Now there are 4 SHVYs, 6 undisabled HVYs, and 2 disabled HVYs) 4 SHVYs move up to attack the 6 HVYs. They get 3 Ds and 2 Xs. One of the Ds kills the already-disabled HVY. 2 HVYs fire back, killing a SHVY. (Now there are 3 SHVYs, 2 undisabled HVYs, and 2 disabled HVYs) 3 SHVYs fire, getting 2 Ds and 2 Xs. That wipes out all of the HVYs. So, 9 HVY tanks lost for the price of 3 SHVYs. That's not bad...
