From: SFsupply@aol.com ------------------------------ From: "Andrew Walters" Subject: Ogre material on personal pages Do you know what the SJGames policy is for people putting Ogre material on their own web pages? I'm working on a couple of strategy things, a story, and some artwork, but want to be sure and follow the rules. I emailed someone at SJ Games and Fish Flowers but got no answer, so my apologies if you're the wrong person to bother. Feel free to point me to the right person. Thanks. Andrew ----- [Not meaning to be dense or anything, but why not submit the material directly for the OGRE site so that everybody can see it? They do seem to be requesting submissions at the moment. (Can't help you much with the SJG staff, cause the Rockies block my telepathy and even psychic friends network isn't much help. ;-) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Hunt, Kirk W." Subject: Militia rule the world. Possible DUMB Question: Are there Militia (Sub-Infantry) rules? If so, where might I find them? Response: EXPERIENCE RULES Keep Commanders seperate from Troops. Use a Green/Veteran/Elite scheme, where Veterans is equal to the standard rules. I suggest a system where a green vs elite commander has to suffer all of (i), while a Green/Veteran or Veteran/Elite match up allows the 'better' commander to choose when they set up. >(i) Assign a commander character to command a taskforce. The characters >with the highest 'Tactical' rating choose whether they want to set up >first or after their opponent. If the difference is significant, the >character with the higher rating can set up part of his force first, >then the opponent needs to set up their force in it's entirety, then the >character can position the remainder of his forces, reflecting his >tactical experience. I suggest a system where green toops have a (-) to hit modifier/table and elite troops have a (+) to hit modifier table. In my GREEN table, 1-1 and better attacks have one 'X' replaced by a 'D', while Elite units gain an extra 'D' in place of a 'NE' on all columns. While Elite troops fight better, they can't exceed physics. >(ii) Add some kind of morale aspect into the battle, restricting units >from performing certain actions etc. >(iii) Actually allowing veteran units a modifier. With this idea, I have >thought about either adding modifiers to the players dice rolls or >actually using a 'Veteran' Combat Results table. Kirk ----- [You can see my Militia in GEV article at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/gevsep14.txt or you can go buy OGRE Minis for 15 thin Combine bucks. If I was going to do an experience system, I'd start with Adding Fear and Loathing to G.E.V. Henry, I would be interested in trying out an OGRE tactic against your defense suggestions. Would you be interested/have the time to play an email game using vmap or some such system? I think your strategy has merit, but I think it could be defeated (without just luck). Drop me a note and thanks for your time. Have a great holiday, Michael PS. I really enjoy the OGRE mailing list. I'll be presenting some ideas in your forum shortly. Keep up the excellent work. Michael Finn chfinn@ch.missouri.edu ----- [Sorry, I've got no time at the moment. (I'll even be working Thursday...) But perhaps somebody else would like to take you up on it? There is a Play by Mail section on the OGRE boards (http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/board/) to seek opponents. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: SFsupply@aol.com Subject: Ogre Macrotures at Florida Con... Hello!! At the suggestion of an Ogre player at Gencon, I have decided to announce whenever Ogre Macrotures will be travelling to a convention. (Hope you don't mind me doing this Henry...) For those of you who don't know, Ogre Macrotures is just Ogre Miniatures... -played with giant models of all the classic Ogre Units ( 2 and 1/2 foot long Ogres that stand nearly two feet tall at the sensor tower, armor units ranging from 7 to 10 inches long and infantry complete with powered armor suits, heavy weaponry and jump packs.) There are two Mark V Ogres, 9 Heavy Tanks, 8 Light Tanks, 6 Missile Tanks, 15(!!) G.E.V.s, 4 howitzers, a command post and enough infantry models to field over 60 SPs of power armored infantry. There is also a wealth of 3D terrain including forests, towns and roads. The next convention these models will be at is JONESCON V, January 16-18, in Gainesville Florida. The actual game date is January 17 (Saturday) at 1:00pm. for more info and directions visit the Jonescon website at http://www.afn.org/~jonescon/. Hope to see some of you there! best, flunky (John Hurtt) ----- [Sounds neat, when will you be visting the 3Com Bay Area? -HJC] Henry J.
