============ OGRE/GEV list, Oct 3rd (Last: Sep 29th) ============= ===== Original Ogre Counter Mix? From: "Andrew Walters" ===== Militia Questions From: Steve Jackson ------------------------------ From: "Andrew Walters" Subject: Original Ogre Counter Mix? Would anyone have any notes on the original Ogre counter mix? Would it be okay to post that here? My Ogre box has two Ogre sets, three GEV sets, Shockwave, and counters made up for Iron Mountain, etc, so I have no idea what the orignal set was. If anyone knows where I can pick up a copy of the Ogre miniatures rules, that would help. No rush, Andrew ----- [On the main OGRE website you'll find a list of dealers known to traffic in out of print games. Just remember that in the original OGRE game, Heavy tanks are marked "M2" and GEVs are marked "M4". -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Steve Jackson Subject: Militia Questions > How many Militia squads can ride on top of a CP? You can put six squads on top of a regular CP, but they won't go anywhere. Any militia trying to climb onto the expensive *mobile* CP will have their butts kicked by the MPs. Might damage the antennae! > Also, can GEV:8.03 be used to cut roads through forest? (trees >blocking the road) I see nothing in 8:03 about forest, and the only mention of roads in 8:03 has to do with blocking them, not creating them. So: No. >Finally, does the attacker in Raid get any VPs if the defender >stations a Militia in every road hex to blow all the roads on Turn one? >(Roads through forest or adjacent to bridges really don't help the >defense much here.) -HJC] Aww, Henry . . . If you are going to screw with a scenario by adding units that didn't exist when the scenario was written, why not have fun? You ahould ask me "does the attacker in Raid get any VPs if every road hex is blocked by a submarine lying across it?" Steve Jackson - yes, of SJ Games - yes, we won the Secret Service case Learn Web or die - http://www.sjgames.com/ - dinosaurs, Lego, Kahlua! The heck with PGP keys; finger for Geek Code. Fnord. ----- [Seperation makes the hearts of infantry grow founder, or at least their chances of survival increase. Even in the advanced OGRE scenario, single squad deployment makes the most sense. A Secondary battery firing at a single squad kills on average one squad. (Actually always) Firing at a double squad it kills both a third of the time and one squad a third of a time for a average of one. Firing at a triple squad counter it kills everybody a third of the time and just one squad a third of the time for an average of one and third squads. A Main battery scores: one, one and a third, one and a third. (Triple squads are never a relief from high attrition rates in OGRE.) Stacking does not actually increase the survivability of infantry. Dense-pack is dunce-pack! (And this is considered one of the big advntages of infantry over Militia which justify that six-fold price difference.) My suggestion is a cloud of single-squads (stacking is OK, when you're adjacent to the big brute) with twenty GEVs on the other side. (They choose retreat over infantry whenever possible. "You guys hold the fort, OK?") But, if they'll let you deploy 180 single squads of Militia and fourty LGEVs, that's also nice. (If the overrun rules are used, otherwise the Militia should have no effect as they'll be APed) Obviously I'm not the only one who thinks that the battlesuits are overpriced, just look at the new "Starship Troopers" movie. -HJC] Henry J.
