============ OGRE/GEV list, Oct 5th (Last: Oct 4th) ============= ===== Original Ogre Counter Mix? From: John Robinson ===== Laser Cruiser From: Chris Camfield ------------------------------ From: John Robinson Subject: Original Ogre Counter Mix? >From: "Andrew Walters" >Would anyone have any notes on the original Ogre counter mix? Would it be >okay to post that here? My Ogre box has two Ogre sets, three GEV sets, >Shockwave, and counters made up for Iron Mountain, etc, so I have no idea >what the orignal set was. > >Andrew Andrew, I have an OGRE game that I have not cut the counters off the original sheet that came with the game. This is what is on it: (Info from "front" of counters) Counter sheet is made up of 112 counters (8 rows x14 columns of counters) Grey counters: 5 MK V OGREs (MK III on back) Black Counters: 1 CP 5 MK V OGREs (MK III on back) 8 HVY TANKs 8 MSL TANKs 6 3/1 INFANTRY (2/1 on back) 4 2/1 INFANTRY (1/1 on back) 9 GEVs White Counters: 1 CP 5 MK V OGREs (MK III on back) 10 HVY TANKs 10 MSL TANKs 6 HOWITZERs 12 3/1 INFANTRY (2/1 on back) 8 2/1 INFANTRY (1/1 on back) 14 GEVs John Robinson Whenever you complicate things, they get less simple. ------------------------------ From: Chris Camfield Subject: Laser Cruiser I think the laser cruiser is an interesting idea, but why would anyone mount a laser on such an unstable platform? The obvious thing is to put the laser on an Ogre, or perhaps IN an Ogre: Stealing an idea from an old Starfire scenario, the laser apparatus itself could be on the inside of the hull, with routing "conduits" to fire the laser out of any of a number of locations. Why not out of the Ogre's conning tower? Chris Chris Camfield - ccamfield@cyberus.ca Big Rude Jake Fan Club President Visit the Big Rude Page at "http://www.cyberus.ca/~ccamfield/brj"! "As the mob thickens, the mystery unfolds..." (BRJ, "Blue Pariah") ----- [I guess I wasn't very clear there. The Laser Cruiser is a ship. It requires water of at least 5 meters depth to cruise around in. It's the replacement for the modern day aegis cruisers. It's designed to protect fleets from Cruise Missiles. My reaction to submerged OGREs (or submerged OGRE ships) is to drop cruise missiles on them. A cruise missile exploding right on top of a submerged unit (which can't shoot it down) has an effective range of zero inches, doubled. Do GEV carriers make much sense in the OGREverse? What's the effect of taking an LGEV out on the open seas? My first take on this is: Any open ocean scenario where the weather isn't stated, roll two dice, take the lower die as the value and then subtract one. (No effect on submerged units.) Sea State Comment Effect 0,1 smooth GEVs treat open ocean as road 2,3 breezy GEVs treat open ocean as clear 4 rough GEVs treat ocean as clear but are disabled on a roll of one at the start of each movement phase. Ships size six or smaller lose two inches of move. Laser ranges (and unit detection) are cut to a maximum of 60" 5 stormy GEVs treat ocean as woods. Ships size six or smaller have their move halved. Larger craft lose two inches of move. All attacks at ranges of 6" or more are half strength. Laser ranges (and unit detection) are cut to a maximum of 40" -HJC] Henry J.
