[details snipped] >Just a rough idea I came up with last night, it may need some details >fixed. Comments?? As Henry wrote, very tough on GEVs, since they can't get in, fire, and withdraw without being shot at. On a side note, I decided what map to use for my tournament scenario - my home town of Ottawa! Combine forces stationed in Ottawa (and reinforcements from Kingston or Toronto) clash with Quebecois rebels over the city during the Crash of 2100. Presumably some of the traditional military units from Quebec served in the war, and the veterans helped the rebellion there. Is this the sort of thing (scenarios set in gamers' home areas) that was envisioned when the Factory States era was decided upon? Were the Factory States part of the unwritten future history even way back in the late 70s/early 80s? Also, when I was reading over the Ogre timeline, I wondered at what time point the "modern" tanks were supposed to have come in. What hardware was in use during the Sino-European war of the 2040s? (BRJ, "Blue Pariah") ------------------------------ From: "Garth L. Getgen" Subject: SuperHeavy Tank damage Henry, > [Superheavy's already got treads, see OM, page 35. "Ogre and > SuperHeavy Ramming" (Should be Rule #6.14.1, if the darn book > was numbered!) -HJC] You mean this: "A Superheavy Tank is considered a Mark I Ogre for purposes of ramming. ..." OK, I can live with that. But what I, personally, do NOT want to see is SuperHeavy Tanks getting Treads in the same way as Ogres have, i.e. the enemy would target the treads or one of the two guns. Basically, what I'm saying is that the first "X" kills one gun and then you roll again as a 1-1 attack on the rest of the tank. Anyone want to run the numbers and see how this idea stands up to two Heavy Tanks?? > [Why not I move while you fire, like in Battlesuit or > GravArmor? (Kinda slow though and tough on GEVs) -HJC] I played it that way a couple times ... didn't work too well. Combat can be so deadly in GEV that the moving units would not close on the enemy unless they had overwhelming numbers. Why close into firing range if you don't get to shoot? We tried it WW-2 style, where you could either move -OR- fire on your turn, which worked out a little better. Hmmm ... combine that with the other idea of simultaneous movement/combat and it could be VERY interesting. Chris, > Oh and... who said anything about the laser having to be a laser *tower*? > That sounds nasty. Just make it a regular laser. Right. Perhaps I didn't clarify that this time. When I first suggested the Mobile Laser System, the idea was that it works exactly like a standard Laser (not Laser Tower) once erected. The "tower" I was referring to is the collapsible/telescopic mount to raise the laser emitter into firing position. > Well, as I suggested, the laser itself could be deep within the hull. > And it should be bloody expensive! That's fine for the power system which isn't defined in game terms, thus can not be a target itself. But I, personally, feel that if you make the defense rating too high on the laser itself (the part you can target), it'll be far too powerful for game balance. The Crawler, on which my idea is based, has a D2 rating; but most Ogre systems have D3 or D4 ratings. That is, in my opinion, too much for a Ogre-mounted Laser. I think Henry's idea is a valid compromise. Keep it at D2 and perhaps half the range to 15 hexes (30") and I think it would work. I'm not sure how big it should be in the Ogre Construction Formula but off hand I'd say the same as a Main Battery. > And a laser doesn't do very much damage against vehicles anyhow. It's a a strength 2 attack ... the same as a GEV or Light Tank!!! > What would 1/1" translate to for hexes? One hex range equals 2" range, so one hex area equals 2" by 2" (four square inches). Garth L. Getgen ----- [I wasn't aiming at having seperate things to shoot at on the SuperHeavy Tank, simply a pile of points to pound on as things fall randomly off. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: ND Subject: Simultaenous Movement I've thought about splitting forces into separate command organizations and then devising a chit system to determine when they move. You'd have a hat full of chits of both sides, maybe some event chits to allow reinforcements or operational events to take place. Neal Durando ----- [There have been senarios covered by GEV rule 4.03. Do you intend that player order be randomly selected each turn? It would be a real bummer if GEVs got overrun by infantry that were lucky enough to pick back-to-back moves. -HJC] Henry J.
