Well... you've just described bomb drones, basically. They _can_ fly, if they want to... but it's not a really good idea. See Battlesuit. > From: Chris Camfield > Fish, this sounds a lot more like Grav Armor to me. I don't remember any > reference to defensive weaponry of this sort in any Ogre fiction or > descriptions. See Ogre Miniatures -- you can get Point Defence for your installations. And at some point I believe Steve mentioned that much of a unit's defence factor was ECM, speed, and PD, rather than sheer masses of BPC. Anyway, see laser towers -- they can shoot down a Cruise Missile, or even an Ogre Missile. Certainly it's possible, at least on a large scale. And if you're just dumping 40mm micronukes at a radius of .5km around your position from your cupola... not much is going to get through that. (Admittedly, I'm taking this to an extreme. But I do envison Ogre-era vehicles having point-defence turrets of some description, if only to knock out incoming arty.) Fish. ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Jamming and all I can see jetpack-equipped infantry - they're just tuned for agility, not speed (you bounce over and skim across the terrain, never flying high). Computer-aided controls let you dodge shots before you realize they're coming... I read somewhere that the Israeli army's tactics for dealing with guided missiles is for everyone in the armor formation to swing their turrets in the missile's direction and fire a barrage of Beehive (flechette) rounds - usually works, if they're fast enough. I suppose in OGre this means that weapon emplacements, buildings, and such (OGREs too?) would mount small gatling guns to spray flechettes at incoming missiles or infantry - OGREs could carry them, and maybe even Superheavies (they get 2 AP turrets, why not point-defense?). How big are the powered suits anyway? Spacesuit size? Mecha powersuit size? That would influence what they can carry (are we mounting a light vulcan gun and a single-shot missile launcher, or a rapid-fire autocannon?) ------------------------------ Henry J.
