============ OGREverse list, Dec 26th (Last: Dec 20th) ============= ===== Enter the Dragon From: SciGuyFla@aol.com From: Preston Gustine ===== Computer Aided OGRE playing From: Kevin McNeece ===== New BOLO book out From: Nyrath the nearly wise ===== More info From: "Denny Graver" ------------------------------ From: SciGuyFla@aol.com Subject: Enter the Dragon This is the first time I have sent any mail to you, so I hope I am sending it to the right place. I have a scenario and short story mostly finished except for one big problem: they both involve Chinese Dragon units. I was wondering if there are any stats (official or unofficial) you know of. I have started searching the archives on your web page, but this will take a while. Additionally, when I finish these, where do I send them so people (and Ogres) can enjoy them? One more question (why not- I am already being a pest!) How do I find opponents (I downloaded V_map after your suggestion) and people willing to sell miniatures? I am really interested in getting some kind of Ogre gaming going on down here (south FLA) and am glad for what I have found so far. BPC never rusts! Roger Morgan a.k.a. "St. George" ----- [Actually, the offical location is ogre@sjgames.com (Just send your messages there, and they'll get right to me), but they won't let me send from there or post my GEV webstuff there so it's a bit problematic to send out messages that appear to be from that location without setting off everybody's spam filters. -HJC] ----- From: Preston Gustine Subject: Enter the Dragon Well for the fun of it I've started to jot down some stats and models for the Chinese Dragons and the Japanese Steel Warriors. Once I'm finish I'll post them and I would love to hear some feedback on the designs. Thanks ----- [Great, I'll compare them to the offical stats and... Wait, I'm not supposed to tell you I know them, sorry. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Kevin McNeece Subject: Computer Aided OGRE playing A quick question, after viewing the webrpg site I was reminded that there at least four PBEM tools out there, that could be used to play Ogre/GEV. Cyberboard, SMS, ADC, V_Map. And I have yet to find the board counter sheets for these(well ADC is a commercial product I don't own, so it does not count.) Is this for a reason? I was on a Conflict Simulation site and some of the post hinted at an Ogre/GEV set, yet when I asked the author he claimed not to have it. Is this because such use is verboten by SJG? Or because no one has done a set? One more quick one. How can I get new counter sheets? Mine are VERY old and well worn. I would like to replace them. Kevin McNeece kmcneece@pcisys.net ----- [Yeah, I need to get some sort of note about electronic usage, but until then, you can review the policy at http://www.sjgames.com/general/online_policy.html I've taken to buying blank counters and writing my own, a must if you want a militia battalion (20 points, see my webpage for changes I'd like to see made in OGRE Minis...) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Nyrath the nearly wise Subject: New BOLO book out Ogre fans should check out BOLO RISING by William Keith, the latest book in the Bolo universe. Lots of cybertank action, and perhaps a scenario idea or two are contained in this book. ------------------------------ From: SciGuyFla@aol.com Subject: Why the infantry(esp. militia) don't like to be close I was thinking about why infantry and militia wouldn't want to get close to an Ogre and came up with a couple of ideas. The reason they don't want to get close to enemy Ogres is obvious- their life expectancy rating drops significantly (and their life insurance premiums skyrocket!) As far as friendly Ogres (well, as friendly as an Ogre can be, anyway), I think the reason may be more medical and psychological than game-play oriented. I will make the assumption that most Ogres survive combat to be used again. If not they would not be effective fighting machines. During these combats, they will sustain damage or at least near misses. Granted that the warheads are shaped charges, I will guess that there will still be plenty of radiation to be absorbed by the BPC of the Ogre. Anyone know how long it takes BPC to cool down (radwise) enough to work on? It saves on electricity bills when the repair shop is lit by the glow of "hot" Ogres, but it makes life a little tough (and short!) for Ogre grease monkeys. I will assume that even in the future, human mechanics will still be cheaper then automated repair facilities and a lot more mobile, too. Since the lifespan of the average grunt is short enough in his suit, I don't think he will want to add to his rad count just hanging around the motor pool discussing tactics with the friendly Ogres.
