============ OGREverse list, Feb 19th (Last: Feb 12th) ============= ===== OGRE/GEV Painting Miniatures From: Winchell Chung ------------------------------ From: Winchell Chung Subject: OGRE/GEV Painting Miniatures I found a few Ogre miniatures that I thought were long lost, and decided to paint them. (a really old Mk V, a resculpted Mk V, and a Mk III). In my drawings, I tried to make the big ball joints on the main guns in a mirror finish. This is because the damn things rotate, and any paint would be scraped off in short order. (one can see a similar phenomenon on an average farm tractor. Any moving rods that enter hydrolic joints are brightly polished, contrasting sharply with the rust and peeling paint of the rest of the machine) A little chrome paint on the miniature did the trick. I mirrored the AP blisters as well, just for the effect. The sensor dome on the tower I had always visualized as green glass, for no good reason. An undercoat of white, then a drop of Testor's Lime Gold metal flake created the desired effect. The plate under the dome was black, as it was intended to shield the sensor dome from being blinded by all the weapon discharges below. The tips of the missiles I made florescent orange, to look like those plastic safety cones put over fighter aircraft jet intakes. I made the main body dark grey, but I'm not sure what shade will do. I am a real amateur at this, does anybody else have any hints, pointers, paint schemes, and whatnot? The notes in the Ogres Miniatures book are good, as far as they go. * A B S I T * I N V I D I A * V E R B O ** I D E M * S O N A N S * +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | WINCHELL CHUNG http://www.clark.net/pub/nyrath/home.html | | Nyrath the nearly wise at the Praeternatural Tower nyrath@clark.net | ----- [OGRE WATCH UPDATE: See: http://cnn.com/TECH/science/9802/18/swiss.robot/index.html "Swiss scientists warn of robot Armageddon" They give 10 years as the countdown to a bot as brainy as any man.
