============ OGREverse list, July 24th (Last: July 17th) ============= ===== Penetrating Questions From: Servitor@aol.com ===== A couple of scenario ideas... From: "William Spencer" ===== Ogre/GEV for sale? From: "Mark A. Johnson" ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Penetrating Questions << [And while that parachute-shell is hanging up there and lining up on the target it'll be shot down or jammed, no? -HJC] >> I believe that's factored into the game by the target's defense strength... (This statement brought to you by the Department of The Obvious. No applause please, I'll be here all week...) flunky ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: A couple of scenario ideas... Idea One: Side A has conventional troops and an Ogre. Side B has conventional troops, but no Ogre - but they have a secret weapon. Y'see, Side B, through some savvy espionage work, a high-power directional transmitter, and just plain luck, has figured out how to hack into the computer of Side A's Ogre. Here's how it works: Side A is attacking B's area, so there are lots of buildings, entrenchments, etc. to play with and destroy. One of the terrain pieces, secretly, is the transmission tower. Whenever the Ogre is within range and LOS of the tower, it can fall under Side B's control. Example (just a quickie suggestion): Ogre is in LOS, start rolling on a table (I'm trying it with the 1-1 column on the CRT). On a NE, Side A retains control of their Ogre. On a D, the Ogre is confused (move it randomly? have the referee control it? Side A gets movement and Side B gets fire control, or vice versa?) On a X, the Ogre moves and fires under Side B's control. Side A doesn't know where the transmission tower is, so once their Ogre starts acting up, they have limited time to find it and destroy it. Or, they could keep their Ogre out of range, but then what good is he? Idea Two: Terrorist (or whatever) action inside a city. You have to take out the terrorists with a minimum amount of force (so weapons have no spillover effects, and please don't knock over too many buildings.) Problem: the terrorists have no such moral qualms, and can use hidden movement. Complications: maybe a riot starts, and the "police" tanks have to wade through several squads of poor-quality "Militia" - time to break out the AP guns. Or maybe you were mis-informed about the terrorist's strength ("they're only infantry!") and get a nasty surprise. Maybe you're ordered to destroy the city to prevent it from being captured, or are attacked while on police patrol. Idea Three: You said some things to your girlfriend (or boyfriend) last night that you shouldn't have said to your worst enemy. They ran off, you tried to go to sleep...but then an alarm sounds. Your um-friend is committing a unique form of suicide: they stole a class XXIII powersuit and are running towards the enemy lines, so "You won't have to deal with him/her anymore." Set up as for a "ceasefire collapse"-type scenario, with a single powersuit in the middle of the map. Every turn, roll one die. Even, your side gets control of the powersuit. Odd, the faceless enemy does. (This is because the um-friend is having second thoughts, and isn't sure who it would be best to be captured by.) Whoever's in control of the powersuit can move it: same movement as a normal powersuit, no attack capability, Defense 0. The goal for both sides is to capture that powersuit and get it off their end of the board: this is done by bringing the suit into "overrun" range and succeeding a 1-1 or 1-2? attack (this doesn't destroy the suit - you're "setting to stun", or firing tangler or glue rounds). "Um-friend?" Example: "Oh, and who's she?" "She's my, um...friend." Spindle, mangle, and mutilate these ideas at will. Later. ----- [Have you ever played Olympia? (It's about the assault on the Webmasters, the UN drops in (in black helicopters?) to cut off their mind-control network...) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Mark A.
