============ OGREverse list, Nov 20th (Last: Nov 15th) ============= ===== OGRE transport From: Preston Gustine ===== Ogre mini's do exist From: JKAJPUST ------------------------------ From: Preston Gustine Subject: OGRE transport Ok so would any one be interested in the stats for an Ogre that's been modified to also serve as a transport for powered armored troops? The way I see it an Ogre can take an objective, but its a really big target when it comes to holding that objective. Also it's a good way to move troops around a hot spot, and keep then alive. Then as an offshoot, a GEV transport/raider. Something like a Fencer or MK IV that's used for deep penetration actions and raids, a commando Ogre if you would. ----- [But, isn't the primary reason that OGREs are unmanned is so that they can be relatively compact solid armor masses with no voids for crew spaces? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: JKAJPUST Subject: Ogre mini's do exist -- I must say that I really don't understand SJG when it comes to Ogre. The company seems quite rabid about protecting itself from illegal copies (which I can understand) but then it seems equally rabid in NOT re-releasing or coming up with any new/old Ogre stuff. If you have no plans on coming out with miniatures or games (and the "having problems finding quality manufacturer, etc" line gets old after a couple/few years) Why not let somebody else do so? There still seems to be an interest in Ogre regardless of what SJG is not doing with it. Why not let the interest grow! A new computer game would be great -- My Atari ST version is growing a bit moldy. Jim Kajpust - Personal Freedoms - Michigan www.concentric.net/~jkajpust ----- [I don't think you quite understand the timetable Mr Jackson is operating on. (He is waiting to sue the government for copyright infringement when they do start fielding OGREs. ;-) Tried LROM again, defense was CP (D3) in 0201, Laser Tower in 0102 and a full platoon in each of 0202, 0203 and 0303. (Yes it looks silly, but you must fly within range of six squads, or nine if you don't hug the edge.) There were 13 GEVs up front and 7 missile tanks at the line, each with three single-squads of infantry, spread in front. The GEVs did standard fuzzy, the missile tanks tried to bring down a line and the forward squads tried to keep adjacent to their missile tanks. The OGRE tried to break the missile tank line in the middle, but the missile tanks got lucky and scored 5 (out of 7) hits on threads. The mark five crawled up to range ten from the CP and fired it's last missile. (There weren't any missile tanks around any more.) Three GEVs and the tower waited for the fifth missile move to fire and missed, but the 4th (out of six) rear squad shot it down. -HJC] Henry J.
