Holmes" ===== Orge From: "Kelly aka Wayne" ===== OGRE transports From: Preston Gustine ------------------------------ From: largecardriver5@webtv.net (edward markle) Subject: Mr Jackson's GEV fiction I do believe your right. Knew I'd read it somewhere in the last six months or so. I liked Garth's scenerio as is....but I like having a scenerio to fit Steve's fiction, it's great to get new stuff for an old favorite. BTW keep it coming, I want more. ----- [If you are talking about the story at: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/articles/gevnotes.html Then simply open your GEV rulebook (if you can find one) and turn to the "Raid" scenario, or turn to page 58 of the OGRE Minis book. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Death from the skies For a paratroop scenario, remember the old "Starship Troopers" game? You could use a copy of the orbital insertion rules, sort of: Send the airplane over the gameboard. Treat it like a high-flying cruise missile, only targetable by lasers, artillery, and such. If the plane survives entering the board, it can drop the infantry. Due to height and jinking, the infantry scatter randomly (say, 1d6 for direction, 1d6 for distance). Each squad takes a turn to drop (while in the air they are vulnerable to attack - no cover up there), and then undergoes a 1-2 attack on the ground (this gives them a chance to be disrupted - the troops scattered - or to come out fighting.) Armor units could be airdropped, too, but you'd have to drop them in boxes with the crew separately. A "crew" unit could be considered a half-strength Militia squad, either airdropped, driven in with GEV-PCs, or hiding in buildings. The "box" would be D1 (a bit of BPC and a small jammer), and would take a turn to prepare for combat. Any infantry unit or CP could do this (or even a tank, if the crew bailed out - but this would be dumb, as any attack would wipe out the crew, permanently disabling the tank). This gives lots of scenario ideas. Perhaps a company and CP is surrounded by superior forces, and their side airdrops in a bunch of armor and infantry. But due to scatter and anti-aircraft fire, only half of the troops get to the ground and are able to enter battle. Vehicle crew could be hiding in bunkers near the CP, waiting for a vehicle to drop for them to use. You could even drop Ogres this way, in several boxes (remember the "Vulcan" cybertank.) > From: "Pat O'Hara" > Why use an Ogre? Even today, the only reason for motor trans for infantry > is so they can keep up with the armor. If you want to deploy troops we > can "ship" them anywhere in the world alot faster than you can get a Fed > Ex package. I realized I left some details out of my last post. That's what I get for doing things so early in the morning. What I meant by "ship" infantry is that we can today air lift infantry to any point on the globe in less than 24 hours. We can send a fair amount of light armour with them and the heavy stuff would be close behind. I would be interested in a para assalt senario for Ogre/Gev. Maybe something of a infiltrate, secure a streach of road and a CP, and get air lifted out. As I no longer have any boards or rules I cannot do this myself, but I will look forward to what ever (if anything) pops up here.PatO ----- [For a combination of OGREs and Starship Troopers, see: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/articles/biblio.html -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Eric T. or Maryann C. Holmes" Subject: Can't get no Release Henry: Mr. Jackson's time schedule for releasing miniatures is going to make me one of the gray hairs of this list if he doesn't do it soon. I'm "creating" my own drawings and castings of an imaginary future tank, and if I call mine Mark One thru Mark Six,who cares. Since there has been no technical data submitted to the patent office and patents are different than copyrights....:-p Ciao Bella! Plus the troops are still riding on the outer surface of the Ogre, not internally, the Ogre does not have to sacrifice any of its solid armor core to accommodate the troops. Well as for the 1-2 defense for the troops, it is a nuke battlefield and a close explosion might well leave the Ogre unscratched, but the close buy troops are not going to fare as well, but an alternative is to role a die and on a 6 the squad dose get hit. This also helps to counter the improvement that the infantry gives the Ogre, their weapons can still be used on armored units like normal troops, not just as AP batteries. ^ troops stands giving the modified Fencer a strength 6 attack, or 2 strength attacks, and such. Sure its only at a range of 1, but that extra punch against strong armor like Hvy tanks, or a mobile GEV force, nice little surprise for one's opponent. To reply to the air mobile approach for rapid deployment, I thought that the rabid use of laser-towers and other air defense systems kept air operations to a minimum. Transport aircraft are slow, lumbering things and a good laser would be able to burn them out of the sky well before the plane could reach it's drop point and deploy its troops. Also thought of another reason for the troops being onboard the Ogre, Factory States Era. Raiders that teamed-up up with a self-aware Ogre. Think of the biker/outlaw gang from Road Warrior, lead by an Ogre. The Ogre smashes the way open for them to jump off, grab all the supplies they can pile into their pillboxes, and then they run off. The humans get supplies and protection with the Ogre, who in turn receives maintenance and upkeep from the humans ----- [Well, I'm certainly willing to allow infantry to ride on top of OGREs at the following rates: OGRE Size Number of Squads 5-6 two squads 7+ three squads Treat the infantry exactly as if they were riding a tank. (Unless you're willing to remove almost all the weapons on the OGRE to make some room inside). Every attack against the OGRE takes full effect on the infantry, using the same die roll. The OGRE playing horsey can target the infantry with its own weapons without danger, but all other units can only declare attacks against working bits of the OGRE and apply the spill onto the grunts. ("LGEV vs treads." Note that the OGRE must not have any weapons left for hostile infantry to have survived the overrun...) The infantry don't have to be on speaking terms with the OGRE, but it sure helps! (See OGRE Minis, page 28) -HJC] Henry J.
