============ OGREverse list, Oct 22nd (Last: Oct 12th) ============= ===== Fires From: "William Spencer" ===== Sand From: "William Spencer" ===== For the list... From: "Stephen Said" ===== Towing. From: Sethkimmel@aol.com ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Fires Can towns or forests be set on fire? Can BPC armor withstand a burning city? ----- [For at least several hours, if it doesn't vaporise under nuclear attack, but I wouldn't drive your OGRE through a lava flow. Hi, I'm back from a top secret project in the desert. Do you know how hard it is to design a mobility system that won't freeze up from contact nuclear explosions? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Sand > [I can neither confirm nor deny that I might have seen rules for >desert terrain in OGRE Minis, but I do think they were a bit harsh on >battlesuits. 3/4ths speed and no defense bonus? It's not like they're >worried about their boots sinking into the sand, t'cha? (Also loose sand >is very good at soaking up explosions, even if it gets turned into glass >in the process.) I think the Sand rules were in "Armor!" or "Airstrike!" (on the SJG site), and they were something like this: Infantry treat sand as clear terrain. Armor halve movement, no combat bonus. My guess is that this is for "loose" sand...like sand dunes and such, which the vehicles sink into, air intakes and machinery get clogged up, and so on. Wet sandy beaches and packed "hard" sand would be regular ol' clear terrain. I remember seeing an old Space Gamer (published before I was born, actually...) mentioning a mini-game (I forget the name) - the situation was the Soviets invaded the U.S. across the Bering Strait, so the map was ice and tundra. The Soviets got motor-sleds and GEVs, and the U.S. got sleds and tanks. The neat-sounding thing about it was that, since we were high-explosives or nukes, the terrain would be converted if it got hit. So ice when blasted would become open water, and tundra would melt and become mud. If you did this in GEV, you'd have to keep track of attacks against clear terrain (to see if it turns into water, mud, or glowing green glass). Enough spillover points would melt the terrain. It'd take a lot of marker counters though. ----- [Send in the computers, or at least robots. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Stephen Said" Subject: For the list... Thnaks for all the comments in relation to the campaign rules. I have not worked on them for some months. I was liaising with a fello fan here in Melbourne, Australia but unfortunatley I lost his email address! The last time we spoke, the main issue we discussed was the amount of record keeping that would be required to keep track of units (including CP's etc...) so we sort of tentativley discussed a formula along the lines of... "OK, so you took the major city, the satellite launching facility and the two towns on the river. That means you can now add %20 to that particular army group as well as adding this satellite type function..." etc I have gone no further because as I said, I lost his email address. If you are out there Paul O'Grady, please speak to me! Any other thoughts on the rules would be appreciated! What are the rules for towed units? (Have I asked this question before?) >> It's probably a throwback the the Ogre Reinforcements Pack towing rules... ----- [Biting tongue to keep from talking about OGRE towing. -HJC] Henry J.
