============ OGREverse list, Apr 22nd (Last: Apr 13th) ============= ===== Where have all the OGREs gone? From: bryan rombough From: Servitor@aol.com ------------------------------ From: bryan rombough Subject: Where have all the OGRE's gone? While part of me may fear that the audience for Ogre may be little larger than those with fond memories dating back over a decade, (or two, I'm only 25 myself) a larger and louder part of me says "Hey! just ask any retailer which games sell best, they'll tell you it isn't necessarily the ones with the best rules or backgrounds, it's the ones with the best support!". If you don't support a game with regular supplements and mini's releases (in the case of Ogre mini's) etc. it's fan base will wither untill you only have a hanfull of hardcore fans, you may find out who your friends are, but you won't get rich and after a while even they may leave or die of old age; and that I'm afraid, is the situation Ogre is in now. I don't want this to sound like too much of a rant, but if SJGames doesn't get of it's butt and start supporting this line (beyond maintaining a website which hasn't been updated since last september) it will die an ugly and lingering death. I know there were some 'teaser' postings on the message boards about mini's last month, but I haven't heard anything official about any upcomeing releases and untill then I'll regard Ogre as a 'coma game'. I guess it's too late to apoligise for ranting and I suppose I'm not saying anything new, but I just wanted to get my two cents in. Dispite my babblings, I'm still a big Ogre fan Bryan Rombough ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Where have all the OGREs gone? << [But wasn't OGRE/GEV the number one best selling micro-boardgame of all time, right before it went out of print for good? -HJC] >> Ahh, but we gamers are a fickle lot, are we not? I say again: When SJG can get the necessary component suppliers in place (i.e. a good plastic miniature manufacturer who can produce Ogre minis at a cost-effective price, etc., etc.) then a boxed game of Ogre minis including several models of Ogres (IIIs, a V and perhaps a Fencer), both Combine and Paneuropean armor and infantry, cardstock miniature buildings (enough for a small city), perhaps an optional large scale hex based playmat, and most importantly, the updated rulebook including the wealth of campaign and background material this game has generated ("Wot? A game of Ogre minis with the Godzilla scenario? Smashing idea!") -THEN we shall see interest the likes we have not seen since the height of the pocket (box) game. Remember, if enough of us pester Steve about this then he will consider moving it up from the backburner. If you want Ogre minis (or even just another reprint of the boxed game) then let SJGs KNOW! best, flunky ----- [Don't you mean MIGHT rather than WILL? After all, there's nothing stopping Steve from unsubscribing if there's too much distration from an unprofitable venue. (Just kidding, please no kill I. ;-) I still think that the way to revive OGRE is to do six things. 1> Give a manga artist free rein over the material. (Masamune Shirow would be perfect for this.) 2> Turn the series into an Anime movie. 3> Get the manga and anime translated into English. 4> Get a "micro machines" type of toy line for the movie. 5> Release a new version of the OGRE Minis book based on the toys. 6> Do a computer game on all of this. -HJC] Henry J.
