Hex based movement for the classic OGRE/GEV fans. Minis based play for the Chaos Gate/ turn based 3D fans. And a RTS, for marketing and the general population. Use the same 3D graphics for all three modes in order to cut costs. The turn based modes can easily support PBEM play in addition to any hot seat or network play. The kicker might be that each mode would require the AI to operate with a different rule set. > [Why not take up the discussion on the Ogre On Computer > message board (http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/board/) before > they close it down? -HJC] This message/thread is now mirrored there. Thanks for the suggestion. -- TAZ ------------------------------ From: Preston Gustine Subject: Moldy Mark Five Well it's working. My mold for an Ogre Mk V is made and I've made some models. They look good, all the detail is still there. ------------------------------ From: pdohara@execpc.com Subject: Militia Regarding the recent dressing down of Militia troops a few notes. Militia tend to be much more able to operate without support. Militia tend to be able to move faster than "normal" troops. Militia tend to be able to reorganize more quickly and often are able to pick up reinforcements at any time. On the down side Militia only work well when defending their own land. Militia require extensive cover. Militia will fight only while they believe that there is something to fight for and a chance they will win. If you look at the history of Militia vs. Conventional Troops, Militia often do quite well. If you have a well trained, well equipt modern army against a hand full of Militia, the conventional wisdom is that the Militia will be crushed. This is not what happened in Afghanistan. The Afghan rebels where able to stand because of the country's topology, and their belief that they had no choice but to win. I am not suggesting that we introduce complex moral rules into the Ogre universe, But I would like to see a map littered with rocky areas that only light tanks and infantry could reach. I might like to see militia be invisible until you "step" on them (No significant heat signature, to RF, etc.) or they fire. I suggest the story "A Hawk Among Sparrows" for more on how technology is not always better. PatO ----- [Let me guess, some poor Ogre is minding it's own business, devastating the countryside when suddenly the ground erupts around it and the Militia jump out screaming "Wolverines Attack" in the moments before they die. Did you see the article about the "Radar flashlight" in the January Marine Gazette? (The OGREs don't need to guess anymore if there's anybody breathing inside the buildings they rumble by...) Also an article on the advantages of railguns. -HJC] Henry J. Cobb ogre@sjgames.com http://www.io.com/~hcobb All OGRE-related items Copyright (c) 1999, by Steve Jackson Games.
