============ OGREverse list, Feb 11th (Last: Feb 5th) ============= ===== Militia Armor From: "William Spencer" ===== Mini rules for Battlesuit & Searching for Cheesehead Ogre Players. From: "Mark A. Siefert" ===== Moldy Mark Five From: Sethkimmel@aol.com From: "Todd A. Zircher" ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Militia Armor Militia may not be unarmored, actually. Just because a soldier doesn't have a battlesuit doesn't mean he's unarmored. They might have a "light" powered suit - just enough synthetic muscle to negate the weight of the suit, and a slim bit of BPC for protection. No jump jets, but full life support gear. (Look to the computer game "Marathon" for inspiration.) A single militia-man could survive short falls and tumbles with ease, using the synth-polymers (and a bit of training) to absorb the impact. Weaponry could include missile launchers, tripod/ baseplate autocannons or vulcan guns, man-portable AV rifles (imagine a recoilless rifle made man-portable and updated to OGRE damage standards), and flamers for close-quarter ops. Of course, the shells would run from standard hi-veloc or guided submunitions to nano-machines, Agent Mauve, and, of course, full-size nukes. Each squad or fireteam would have an EW operator with a full array of sensors and jammers. They could even carry some sort of "stealth cloak"; say, radar-absorptive netting when they need to hide. I don't have my rulebook with me; anyone got ideas for stats? (How To Fake It: er, combat stats of infantry, treat as militia in overrun, and half the movement value of infantry?) You could have Heavy Weapons troops, Engineers, Marines (equipped with scuba gear and mountain-climbing equipment), Rangers with jetpacks, etc. If you played "pre-War" scenarios, before the Great War, these would be _standard_ infantry, with militia as home-defense or conscript troops (cheap but weak) and battlesuits as Special Ops (fast and tough, but _very_ expensive...) The Militia hold the city, the Mobile Infantry hop forward and engage the enemy, with the Foot Infantry coming up behind to hold the terrain... ----- [Actually, I do buy armor for militia. It's called armored hovertrucks and it's a great deal less expensive than the powered suits. (And over twice as fast.) Let us consider a "Hover APC" which is exactly the same as the armored hovertruck, except that one of the carried squads may fire freely. The cost of the HAPC and one squad of militia is then 1 * ( 2 * 1 + 1 + 6 * 1.2) + 2 * 1 * (2 + 4 * 1.2) = 20.8 or 1.73 VPs (So carving a few holes in the sides has added almost half to the value of a armored hovertruck.) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Mark A. Siefert" Subject: Mini rules for Battlesuit & Searching for Cheesehead Ogre Players. Hello: First time poster, Long time lurker: Recently I discovered a old copy of SJG's Battlesuit at a local SciFi/Comic store and I thought that it looked too good to leave it there gathering dust. After perusing the rules, I was wondering if anyone had tried to convert this game to miniatures. Not that the map and counters weren't nice. It's just that I think that the game would be awesome on a 3-D playing field. Any ideas on how this can be accomplished. Also, I was wondering if there was anyone on the list who plays Ogre minis and lives in the SE Wisconsin area? I've tried to get people around here interested to no avail. Pity, it's such a good game too. Later, Mark A. Siefert ------------------------------ From: Sethkimmel@aol.com Subject: Moldy Mark Five << From: Preston Gustine Well it's working. My mold for an Ogre Mk V is made and I've made some models. They look good, all the detail is still there. >> Now if you can make a Mark IV and a Mark VI, you will have a gold mine...:-) ----- From: "Todd A. Zircher" Subject: Moldy Mark Five Yo! Is this private use stuff or are you working with SJG to bring back the line? -- TAZ ------------------------------ Henry J.
