In this email I would like to ask that anyone who enjoys the Battlesuit game give me a ring, I'd like to start a mini-revival of this cool game - starting with some new units and vehicle rules if possible. In addition I've started on a conversion of Battlesuit into suitable Heavy Gear/Jovian Chronicles terms. When finished this will be a combination RPG and tactical game system set in the Ogre universe. So if you have ideas and are familiar with that game system drop me a line at tzeentch666@earthlink.net. Are there any Battlesuit related articles (especially technical discussions) in the archives? I'm interested in all technical aspects of the Ogre universe for my conversion.. Thanks again, thanks for keeping these great games alive ;) Kenneth ----- [Naw, I just greped my archives and didn't spot anything too detailed about Battlesuit. Hmmm... how about inverting the infantry article on my homepage and taking the one shot missiles from OGRE Minis into Battlesuit? (Given what they do against heavy tanks, it'd be interesting to see what the Battlesuit stats were.) The biggest problem with vehicles in Battlesuit is that there is only one "odds" table to hit and kill. I can see the usual "rifle" carried by grunts hitting the side of an OGRE with just about every shot and just bouncing off each time. (With seperate ECM and armor values you can show the difference of different weapon systems much better. See GURPS...) -HJC] ----- From: cedric18@juno.com Subject: Battlesuit Information This is my first message to the list, and I am glad tha I might be able to help some one out. Issue #3 of Volume 2 of the Vindicator fanzine has an article titled (I think) "Adding GEV to Battlesuit". I haven't seen it yet, but I'm in the process of trying to get a copy. You can link into the Vindicator page through the SJGames Ogre page. I hope this helps. Dave P.S Anybody out there live in the Champaign/Urbana Illinois area and interested in a face to face game, feel free to drop me a line. ----- From: largecardriver5@webtv.net (Thunder 6) Subject: Battlesuit Information BTW Vindicator , the microgame ? fanzine did an article in it's last two issues on adding vehicles to Battlesuit. It had counters for GEV's with it. You could contact them and get the issues with the articles. I think you can get the address from the Ogre pages at SJGames web site. ----- From: OHara Walter Subject: Battlesuit Information There was a snazzy variant that introduced GEVs at the Battlesuit scale that was recently published in the Vindicator. Worth pursuing. ------------------------------ From: "Mark A. Johnson" Subject: Ogre Reinforcement Pack I am currently looking for a copy of the "Ogre Reinforcement Pack". I am willing to purchase outright, and/or trade for a copy of Shockwave. Mark A. Johnson ------------------------------ From: "Mark A. Johnson" Subject: Ogre Mark II stats I have a question about the Ogre Mark II. It is mentioned in at least two articles on the Ogre web site. The following comes from "Another ^@**&?!! Ogre Article": Ogre Mark II The Mark I worked, but it wasn't really cost-effective. Since it was now clear that the "brain" could handle several weapons at once, the Mark II was designed with a larger chassis and more guns. 1 Main Battery (Attack 4, Range 3, Defense 4): O 2 Secondary Batteries (Attack 3, Range 2, Defense 3): O O 6 Antipersonnel (Attack 1, Range 1, Defense 1): O O O O O O 30 Tread Units: (Starting MA 3) O O O O O O O O O O (M2) O O O O O O O O O O (M1) O O O O O O O O O O (M0) The "Icepick" scenario mentions the following: The Combine player gets three Ogres. Icepick Leader is a standard Ogre Mark III; Icepick Two and Three are obsolete (but still dangerous) Mark II units, with characteristics as follows: one main battery (4/3, D4), two secondaries (3/2, D2), six AP (1/1, D1), and thirty tread units (starting speed of 3, reduced by 1 foreach ten tread units lost). (The D2 defense for Mark II secondaries is not a typo. Mark IIs were underarmored.) The Ogres may sct up to the south (anywhere within five hexes of the edge of the map); to the east (any hex on the east edge of the map, but not north of 2308), or both. The Ogres may not be stacked. The Ogre player moves first. Note that, until the Ogres leave the water, they travel at the standard underwater movement rate of one hex per turn, but may not be attacked except by HWZ and MHWZ fire (at half strength) and by marine battlesuits. My question is, are the two secondaries D2 (per "Icepick") or D3 ("Another ^@**&?!! Ogre Article")? I am inclined to go with "Icepick", as it mentions the difference specifically. Mark A. Johnson ----- [As of OGRE Minis, the Mark II is back to full D3 on the secondaries. So the table goes like: Mark D of Weapons Total treads I 8 (5.33) 18 II 16 (12.00) 30 III 30 (20.67) 48 III-B 40 (26.67) 48 IV 30 (24.67) 56 V 56 (36.00) 60 VI 54 (43.33) 72 So you can see that it's usually eaiser to strip every weapon off then stop these beasts. How about a Mark III-F, developed while they were working on the Mark IV, with exactly the same items onboard as the usual Mark III, except that the treads are organized as 8 inches by six treads per inch. Would this baby be worth more or less than a III-B? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: OGRE Dawn << But you seem to have come up with a problem (if you want to call it that...) with having large numbers of ANY cheap unit, like overrunning Ogres with hordes of LGEVs. Maybe with more than 5 units in an overrun, spillover should start to occur? :-) >> YES!! Absolutely! In Ogre Macrotures (Ogre with 1/24th scale models for the uninitiated. ...See my soon-to-come website for pictures...) We ran into the same problem when some fellow brought his own "militia" models (and nicely converted Nato troops at that...) and asked if he could use them. I guess the evil glint in his eye should have warned me... Anyway, enforcing spillover on any group of 5 or more attacking troops makes sense. (Note that GEV-PCs and their militia load count as one (1) unit in this case.) But any size group of defending troops does NOT undergo spillover (they are "dug-in" waiting for the Ogre and are thus less susceptible to shrapnel and shockwaves.) Now the militia will start hiding in the Ogre's anticipated path... best, flunky ----- [How much for a concealed possition for the militia? I can just see an OGRE hopping happily down a forest path humming something like "What a lovely day, I think I'll go run over some hovertanks" when suddenly the ground around it errupts and the militia shout: "Wolverines Attack!" Shouldn't overseas deployment cost more than the Militia themselves? -HJC] Henry J. Cobb ogre@sjgames.com http://www.io.com/~hcobb All OGRE-related items Copyright (c) 1999, by Steve Jackson Games.
