From: Servitor@aol.com ===== Heavy Weapons From: "Dominique Sumner" ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Bop till you drop. << On the other hand, aren't BOPPERs just very cheap cybertanks? >> Bonus points to anyone who can tell us what a GLUT is (not you, Henry...) flunky John Hurtt (Servitor@aol.com) ----- [Geez, I'm such an expert on OGRE that I got drafted into editting the DMOZ category, http://dmoz.org/Games/Board_Games/Space_Combat/Ogre/ But, I'm sad because I've only got two links there. Maybe everybody could go to that page and submit their OGRE/GEV web pages and fill this page out, t'cha? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Dominique Sumner" Subject: Heavy Weapons > [Aren't heavy weapon squads about the same as modern mortar teams? -HJC] No... modern mortar team are not he same thing as a heavy weapons squad. In inf. units you will usually have some type of mortars at platoon, company, and battalion level. Usually the higher the HQ, the larger the mortar size. Mortars are used for fire support and once emplaced they pretty much stay their as their a pain to site in. the only ones that move on a regular basis are the heavy mortars mounted on a tracked chasis or the very small inf mortars (60 mm). Depending on what type of inf. unit it is you will also have a AT unit armed with a Dragon, or vehicle mounted TOW missile. Heavy weapons are .50 cal HMGs, and 40mm AGLs (US uses MK-19). they are usually vehicle mounted or on tripods for defense. each service organizes its heavy weapons and mortars differently, I cna only speak on the US Army, and I've worked with both AF and USMC. ----- [Yes, Dragon Teams. Mobile units with heavy firepower and limited reloads. That's exactly like the Heavy Weapons squads. How about mortar militia platoons (see my page for what I think of militia squads), they'd have a range of four, but couldn't fire outside of overruns on any turn they moved. -HJC] Henry J.
