From: Tom Granvold From: Servitor@aol.com ------------------------------ From: SRKOALA@aol.com Subject: GEV Questions Hi, I got as slightly used and over priced copy of GEV today. Neat game, just three questions: How big is a hex? How long is a turn? Does infantry in water in an over run have an attack of 0 or 1? -Stephen ----- [A GEV hex is two Minis inches, hence 1,500 meters. Each turn is 4 minutes. Non-marine infantry have no attack strength while flying over water. They also suffer an allergic reaction to garlic and shun the crucifix and sunlight. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: bryan rombough Subject: OGRE sites? > Show me it ain't so. Post your BPC plated URLs at > > http://dmoz.org/Games/Board_Games/Space_Combat/Ogre/ -HJC] Well, there is (not mine) the address was posted to the OGRE message boards a while ago. I find the background combined with the text colour rather hard on the eyes though. Bryan ----- [OK, got that. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Adrian Dillon Subject: "My cup Overrunneth" Ok here it is- Why are Ogre weapon strengths doubled in an overrun? In a scenario where an Ogre is overrun by infantry, not only does the Ogre get to double the point value of it's weapons it gets to fire first, even though it would have just come through a fire phase of it's own. Why do the units that are involved in the defense portion of an overrun get fire phases out of turn? Should there be a speed of reload rule that says that units firing in an overrun lose those weapons for the next turn? What about damage to stacked units? Don't infantry swarming an Ogre become stacked with it? Thus if your infantry were attacking the Ogre's treads and the Ogre attacked the infantry with a main or secondary battery the treads should take damage too. I assume that AP are designed with tread health in mind. RE: the OB Data in Ogre Miniatures leaves out the "Motorized Rifle Division" (Boo, Hiss!) and the "Armored Cavalry Division" both of which armies of today seem fond of what would you suggest? ----- [Robotic reflexes have the advantage when time of flight is short. Only a few weapons have limited rates of fire. Try a hoverblitz against a Fencer. Overrun combat uses far fewer rounds, much more accurately placed, so no spillover occurs. I'm still working on the right rules to have militia hidden under cover until an OGRE rumbles up then it's "Wolverines Attack!" and the illregulars get in a fire phase to blow off a main battery before they're mowed down by AP fire. How about the Mechanized Infantry Regiment and the Combine Fast Strike Battalion? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Tom Granvold Subject: Bop till you drop. > From: rtot > ><< On the other hand, aren't BOPPERs just very cheap cybertanks? >> > >Bonus points to anyone who can tell us what a GLUT is (not you, Henry...) > >John Hurtt (Servitor@aol.com) > > Great Large Unidentified Trivia > :) > > >Yes, but where was this printed? :-) -HJC > > You mean the reference itself(?) Boppers :-) These are from the Metagamming Microgame Rivets. The units were various types of boppers. Each type of bopper could be programmed to attack on type of enemy bopper. If all of that type of bopper was brought back to the factory, they could be reprogrammed. The bopper types included the Big Bopper and flying bopper. There were even miniatures produced for these at one time. I had a bunch of the mini's which a sold a couple of years ago. Rivets was great fun. The article was entitled "Encounters of an Unlikely Kind", originally a Space Gamer article (can't remember the issue number) that made it into THE OGRE BOOK (a fantastic compendium of Ogre articles from the earliest days including strategy, fiction, new units, scenarios and dissemination of the Ogre universe (as it was then forming). I MUST remember to ask SJG if a reprint would be possible (updated of course), to coincide with the (inevitable?) re-release of Ogre Miniatures... best, flunky ----- [With all the scenarios converted to inches so that nobody asks about the board game again? -HJC] Henry J.
