I guess I'm not surprised, there's probably alot of students on the list and we usually get pretty quiet at the start and end of a semester(at the end of a semester I usually punctuate the silence with unintelligable and bitter babblings and rantings). > Is anybody else bummed that early Thursday morning the Starship > Troopers TV show will play for the last time on the Sci-Fi channel and the > bugs haven't gotten anybody yet? -HJC] We get that on Fox up here and I can't say I've been that impressed, the computer animation is not as bad as Voltron or "Xyber 9" but it's still not as good as what's currently coming out of Mainframe(Reboot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Beast Machines) a lot of companies who've jumped onto the "CGI cartoons" bandwagon seem to think that expensive computers and software can replace skilled animators, and that just isn't true. Time to get back on topic, is there any more news on the ressurection of the OGRE mini's? I'd like to do demo's at conventions but I'd really prefer to do them with miniatures. Bryan ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Contributing to the Cause... Not a single message?! Must be a slow month...I guess I'll contribute to the cause, here. Lacking sufficient miniatures, I recently used Legos to fight a simple CP Raid on the living room floor. The Ogre was pretty clumsy, but the tanks and GEVs were pretty convincing. (They only took about a dozen pieces each, too.) I discovered the hard way that a pair of GEVs can destroy an Ogre in overrun, if its heavy armament has been destroyed...whups. The infantry were a little out of scale, though...ah, well. It was fun, anyway. I also shamelessly sneaked a Bolo into my Earthdawn campaign. (Must've been Precursor or Old One technology, abandoned over the long millenia.) Fortunately it was destroyed before it did any serious property or socio-cultural damage. William Spencer williamspencer@hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: "Andrew Walters" Subject: OGRE Fonts Before the list goes silent for a week I wanted to jump back and offer another suggestion for whoever was looking for a font that could be used for Ogre purposes. Uncle Bear, a site everyone should check out at since it has a variety of RPG, comics, and general fun things, has a nice collection of esoteric fonts including a couple that would work for Ogre. Cruise Missles: Shockwave vs. Ogre Minis Did anyone else notice that cruise missles changed a *lot* between SW and OM? One of the projects I can't get back to is figuring the relative effectiveness, but either way they're very different and cost the same. ----- [Cruise missiles are less effective now against GEVs and infantry, more effective against heavy armor and OGREs. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Fun at Gencon << nobody has sent me any material since sep 5th. >> Yeep!! Mea Culpa! Hmmm. Maybe if I had something new to write about... I just don't want to rehash past discussions if I can avoid it. Funny how it seems that everyone just ran out of steam (or got too busy) all at the same time. I WILL ask if anyone on this list made it to Gencon this year. If so, did you see the OGRE Macrotures games I was running Saturday morning and afternoon? my manager at Sci-Fi-City enjoyed the con so much that he's talking about us going again next year. Sooo... If you've always wanted to play OGRE with the BIG TOYS, see if you can make next year's Gencon. Feel free to email me this spring at Menial@aol.com to confirm that I will be going. Sure it's fun to play the pocket game, -or even the miniatures version. But there's nothing quite like the sight of a three foot long, eight pound model Ogre actually running over HVYs, MSLs and GEVs to bring home the vision of nuclear carnage that is OGRE. Oh, BTW, I've just added five inch tall, six-sided dice (that squeek!) to the game. No more cursing because the six-sider you just threw manges to roll under the Ogre. No more groaning, "OH, my hernia..." as you lean over to read a tiny die. And no more hopping around in pain because you stomped squarely on a small pile of d6es. (I insist on a "shoes-off" policy on the battlefield...) best, flunky ------------------------------ From: Jpattern@aol.com Subject: Paint schemes Here's an informal survey for everyone: What colors do you paint your OGRE minis? The OGRE Miniatures book offered several possibilities: camouflage, burnt-and-blackened, parade dress, bright colors mimicking sensor blips, and so on. All of my painted minis are camouflaged (urban camo in a "block" pattern, desert pinkish-tan, and two-shades-of-green), but for my next batch I'm considering using a parade dress or sensor blip scheme. I'm actually leaning toward the red-orange, yellow-orange, and deep-metallic-purple of the OGRE blister packs, but I don't want them to look cartoonish. (Then again, the bright yellow armor in the OGRE Miniatures book looks good, and not at all cartoonish.) Just curious to know what the other members of the list did. Check out their Micro SF line. Does it look somewhat familiar? http://www.polomania.com/stan/micro.htm I'm ordering their GEV company straightaway. ------------------------------ From: "Dominique Sumner" Subject: Pond Wars > Is anybody else bummed that early Thursday morning the Starship > Troopers TV show will play for the last time on the Sci-Fi channel and the > bugs haven't gotten anybody yet? -HJC] Well one of the local channels runs it a 5:30 AM. Just have to remember to set the VCR. I have a question. Does any one have a copy of the following: Pond Wars (It's a GEV scenario that ran in an early issue of Space Gamer) Henry's Forward Observer article I'm also looking for a copy of a game called Grav Armor. If any one can help me out hear it would be appriciated. *Shameless plug* For anyone interested in military or civilain special operations check out our web site at www.specwarnet.com ----- [Pond Wars was NOT a GEV scenario. (Though there may have been a variant...) I've got a copy of Grav Armor come by some time the City by the Bay. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Mike Subject: Bugged by bugs Concerning the...thing....on the Sci-Fi Channel. The sooner it's off the air, the better. Maybe, in about 15 years, James Cameron will make Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, an ACCURATE portrayal of the book. Would be a first in film history....a Heinlein book that wasn't mutilated on the way to the screen. But first, we have to kill the sorry *&%^&*% who hold the rights, so ol' Cameron can do the job right........ *calmly waits for the Mafia contract hit men to eventually find that stupid Dutchman* ------------------------------ From: "Mike Arms" Subject: Roswell?
