(Like those "milk- > bottle sized" shells that the A-10 Thunderbolt's [GAU-8] "Avenger" > autocannon fires.) Coke bottle sized. Scale up a .30 cal rifle round to '1.18 cal' (roughly four times longer and wider) Still hefty for an auto-cannon round. I'm still of fan of rail guns firing BPC slugs. After all, it's an easy material to salvage compared to mining fissionable materials and refining them. -- Todd "ex A-10 weapons specialist" Zircher ------------------------------ From: Patrick.ODonnell@materna.de Subject: A Militia Manifesto > ... A nine-minute mile is, for me, a pretty decent jogging pace. And when I jog a nine-minute mile, I'm doing it along a well-paved road over familiar territory. Carrying nothing heavier than my tennis shoes. And, generally, not being shot at. True. And you are also not controlling your heart rate using the methods of what are today's *Extreme Sports* participants (bio rythmes). You are also not hopped up on any *Push* drugs. The militia of the future will probably be doing both. Of course, even with the above named methods 9 mph is maybe a little much. Best, Patrick ----- From: "Herb Diehr" Subject: A Militia Manifesto A few points: I agree with the fellow who said militia should not move and should have platoon size. However, the idea of moving on tanks as 1/3 size units is difficult... I prefer the idea of forcing them into trucks or GEV-PC's, as riding a tank without armor at those speeds would be jelly-making of the bones...! Those of you whom have never ridden armor just have no idea how unpleasant it is, at low speed! The other point made, about firing militia units, did not touch upon morale. I doubt militia anywhere is equal to the tasks performed by line infantry, even with the same equipment and such. They lack the training and experience. These may be proper infantry, just without armor, but then should be called such. Militia is partially trained, temporary force. They are not up to the same rigors of warfare. I don't believe anyone really has much of an idea of what a micronuke is, today. However, I prefer to think of it as a shell with a cold-fusion warhead the size of a cigar which acts as a shaped charge with an incredibly short half-life. Larger nukes are available, but have a few days of half-life... This is how I PREFER to think of them...! Realistic? Well, let's wait and see... Finally, I wish there was a strategic version of ogre (Third Reich? Axis and Allies? Wars of Napoleon? Something!!) Anyone done anything like that? Herb Diehr The Dire Wolf ------------------------------ From: "Eric T. or Maryann C. Holmes" Subject: GURPs OGRE Henry: I'd like to second Duncan McEwen's assessment of SJG's GURPs OGRE. My only disappointment with the whole chapter on the OGRE Variants, there were no dimensions given for each OGRE. While there are volumes given, it's hard to extrapolate dimensions from totals. Maybe someone else can tell me the exterior dimensions of each OGRE variant. Eric Eric T. Holmes Artic Force Command (ARTFORCOM) o +. | * .
