============ OGREverse list, Dec 13th (Last: Dec 7th) ============= ===== Craftwork From: Servitor@aol.com ===== Missile Tanks From: David Morse ===== The New Ogre Deluxe Edition From: Kerr Ballantyne ===== Militia From: Todd Zircher From: "Hunt, Kirk (Tucson)" ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Craftwork > << Put your maps under a piece of glass (I use a picture frame) and write > the SP > of your buildings, and mark your artillery ranges, on the glass with > dry-erase markers. Draw out your Ogre records on the glass, too, or place > paper copies under the glass and mark on top of it. Be sure to slide a copy > of the CRT or terrain chart under the glass it as well, should you need one > of those. I stick a generic Ogre record sheet under there as well, and fill > it out before the game. >> Plexiglass or clear styrene plastic works good too. If your dry erase marks are being erased too easily by errant sleaves or hands, try using china (grease) markers. They are available in several colors at your local office supply store. You could use thick self-adhesive lamination sheets to "seal" each of your maps. Cut right to the edges of the maps, you can still place maps together. The only drawback is that you would no longer be able to fold them. However, they would still fit easily into a page protector for storage in a thin notebook. On a (slightly) related subject, you can put your minis in a small, flat case with padding. Buy a large (3") ring binder. You can rivet punch two or three plastic staps with snaps into the inside of the front of the binder (or just use straps with velcro). Now you can carry everthing in that binder. The minis in the case, and maps, counters, dice, etc. in 3 hole pocket protectors. Note that the new boxed Ogre game (YAY!!!) will fit in a 3" ring binder (sticking out a little at the top and bottom). Just don't forget to add those straps or accidents WILL happen. << I'm new to the whole OGRE game. Is there any where I can find a description of paint schemes or pics of painted minis so I can get some ideas for my own? >> Try some of these sites for pics. There are also links leading to more sites. An engine search should yield good results. http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/ http://panpacific.homestead.com/Home.html << Then once the French turned belly-up... >> Ouch. I have it on good authority from British tourists that a great way to beard French travellers in the Chunnel is to remark out loud: "This reminds me of the Maginot Line." Then, if any of them take exception and says something nasty, just smile and say: "No problem, we were still happy to have bailed you out." The smart ones shut up at that point... (I must confess that I would not have the guts to try this...) best, flunky (John Hurtt, Servitor@aol.com) ------------------------------ From: David Morse Subject: Missile Tanks hjc> I doubt they'll be included in new edition of OGRE Minis, as my view hjc> on the need to prop up Infantry and Howitzers is not generally accepted. Well, I certainly agree with you on the MSL TANK needing help. It *stinks*. imho. --Dave ----- [What? The Ajax is a great little unit for urban combat, because it usually doesn't have to depart cover to engage. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Kerr Ballantyne Subject: The New Ogre Deluxe Edition Oh the joy that occured at my local game store when this item came in. Not only did I pounce on my copy, my local owner wanted me to open the set up to see the mini's. By the way.......love them! I really have to say kudos for the "CommandPost" mini. Most excellent to finally have something that allows you to see the poor, doomed building rising up in the backfield. As for painting........look at any military book by Osprey or just your favorite movie. That's the joy of Ogre. I have a beutiful FENCER model that is painted in drab grays like the German Army during WWII in Russia. I also have a Mark V that is painted a lovely desert brown scheme for warfare in the sahara. My only other questions concerns the old resin figures that were produced for OGRE minis? Are we going to see Laser Towers, Jam Screens and Satelite dishes coming back? Kerr Ballantyne ------------------------------ From: Todd Zircher Subject: Militia > [A faster slug has less recoil than a slower slug with the same amount > of kinetic energy. -HJC] Generally the faster slug has less mass. Recoil/linear momentum is a function of velocity and mass. This link covers it real well by provide examples based on reality and Hollywood. http://www.slcc.edu/schools/hum_sci/physics/tutor/2210/linear_momentum/ What it doesn't cover is armor piercing and incendiary effects of hyper velocity flechettes striking exotic armor. ^_^ -- TAZ ----- From: "Hunt, Kirk (Tucson)" Subject: Militia >From: Todd Zircher >Technical Foul: 5 yard penalty > >Railguns do not violate the laws of physics. They kick like a mule and >if not powered by a reactor require hard core batteries or capacitor-like >ammo. Unlike gas operated weapons, you don't even have blow back to >compensate for recoil. As a supersonic weapon, you never hear the slug >with your name on it. I am chastised. My punishment will be a 5 page paper on railgun tech. (But I DID say boosted...) On the other hand, there are other ways to boost the penetration power of an infantryman/rifleman. Teflon-coated bullets. Needle-like bullets. Smaller, multi-shot rocket/grenade launchers. Somebody suggested packaged chemical laser rounds. SOMEthing will show up...unfortunately for the REALverse... In the meanwhile, I think EVERYbody wants to avoid the OGREverse turning into ASL-Future. Whatever rules for Riflemen are written in, please keep them simple and fast. (If Riflemen are popcorn, so be it.) Just in case this comes out BEFORE CHRISTmas...Enjoy the season and let all of your violence be with literal paper men... Kirk ----- [Oh good grief, you wrote that like I only sent out an issue about as often as SJGames updates their OGRE pages. ;) Militia carry M-LAWS, which have got a fifth the bite of the LGEVs main gun. (And a much shorter range) As far as I can tell, M-LAWs have zero effect against AP batteries. -HJC] Henry J.
