From: Servitor@aol.com From: "Garth L. Getgen" ------------------------------ From: Pat & Ellen Hannum Subject: Ogre Rereleased *Lurker alert* Pardon me, but the rerelease of Ogre... it that the large deluxe game or the orginal mini case game? thanks Pat ----- [I believe that it is the combined edition with the flip-rulebook. -HJC] ----- From: largecardriver5@webtv.net (e.w.markle) Subject: Ogre Rereleased I can see it now "Hell Freezes Over, Satin has Flu and Cold". Is this gonna include any of the Shockwave unts? how about the Reinforcements stuff. Mind you, I will be glad to get a stright reprint. But a new Shockwave map would be really nice. Is it Christmas already??? Thanks Steve, Let the Galaxy Burn ------------------------------ From: "Paul & Lynette" Subject: My new OGRE webpage G'day all, just thought I'd let you all know that I finally gotten off my behind and made my own OGRE webpage. It has the history and organisation of the Pan Pacific Alliance, my attempt to bring the Australasian nations into focus in the OGREverse. As far as I can tell it doesnt contradict anything 'official'... I've also got some pics of my OGREs...and Alan's Mark IV (yes, a 'real' Mk IV OGRE!) Comments, feedback and suggestions are most welcomed ! http://panpacific.homestead.com/Home.html Regards, Paul O'Grady paulog@one.net.au Sydney, Australia ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: 3D models Last time, I said: >Anyone know where I can find on the web 3D models of Ogre-style units? I >found a Battletech archive with some good tanks and GEVs - no "official" >units, however. I particularly need battlesuits. > >Thanks in advance. > >- William Spencer > >----- > > [I'd check with Steve before posting any such. -HJC] Ooh, yeah, I hadn't thought of that. Intellectual property and such, right? I don't want people to violate copyrights (especially not with the game being reprinted - hooray!, I hope). Hmm....in that case, _any_ info on where to find good (and legal) armor units would be helpful. Especially battlesuits. (I've found exactly none, so far. Maybe I should try to find an anime archive?) - William Spencer ----- From: Steve Jackson Subject: 3d Models >From: "William Spencer" >Anyone know where I can find on the web 3D models of Ogre-style units? Denis Loubet is preparing 3d models for the next set of projects. I don't know whether we'll post those files, though! Steve Jackson - yes, of SJ Games - yes, we won the Secret Service case Learn Web or die - http://www.sjgames.com/ - dinosaurs, Lego, Kahlua! The heck with PGP keys; finger for Geek Code. Fnord. ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Boardgame to be reprinted. << [Is that http://www.sci-fi-city.com ? The flash page is missing alt tags. -HJC] >> Yeppers. << LOS is already in minis, but would require a map with ridges. >> Check out http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/icepick/icemaps.html for ideas about creating your own maps quickly and easily (if, like moi, you are computer ignorant.) << We don't want to add more rules to the basic game, but optionals are always a possibility for later releases. >> Just reprint The Ogre Book Vol. 1 (with a bit of updating) for the first supplement. And there is more than enough material to now create Vol. 2 (and even 3!!) Jazz up the books with a new map (or two) in each supplement and perhaps a counter sheet for new/additional units. I would gladly pay upwards of $15. for such (more if there were multiple maps and other play aids binded in...) Thoughts on this everyone? << [Maybe he'll come out with a collectable card game? If so, how much for a mint holo first edition Mark V? -HJC ;-] >> I'll trade you a Charzard for it... (sounds of scuffling, then of a person being dragged out back and beaten to a pulp...) best, flunky ----- [Gotta be careful where you show those Charizards! Acually I was hoping for some INWO. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Garth L. Getgen" Subject: Boardgame to be reprinted. Henry Cobb replied to my suggesting LOS rules for the board game: > [Wouldn't reaction fire mess up GEVs? LOS is already in minis, > but would require a map with ridges. -HJC] I guess he forgot way back when he posted my draft rules set on this E-mail list (and I presume they're still in the archives someplace), but I pointed out that I wrote those BEFORE the OGRE Miniatures Rules were published by Steve Jackson Games. I had submitted them to SJG via snail-mail, but they were returned unread at the time for a couple reasons: first, I didn't do it in the proper format (double spaced, etc), nor did I have the "right" legal release papers attached, but mainly (I suspect) because SJG had already started down the road of dropping the board game and switching support to the minis. As to the rules themselves, it was funny how close mine and SJG's ended up being. No, I do not and never did think they ripped me off!!! It's just of case of GMTA (Great Minds Think Alike). As I recall my rules off the top of my head, LOS is blocked by forest, swamp and town and causes a -1 shift on the die-throw. Should any new types of terrain be added to the game, they would have to be defined as LOS blocking or non-blocking terrain. LOS could be traced into and/or out of, but NOT through, one blocking hex; thus two units in hexes next to each other are in LOS. However, if any one unit in a combined attack has LOS, then that unit "spots" for all the units and there is no die-shift. Ogres did not check for LOS either when firing nor being fired upon, but could not spot for conventional units. Yes, I wanted to add terrain elevation to the game, too. Not only would that create LOS issues but also movement issues depending on the slope of the terrain. I'll have to dig through my hard drive to find my notes on that. Reaction fire could only be used during the enemy's FIRST movement phase (thus allowing GEVs to move safely during their second movement phase), causing a Spillover type attack (except Infantry aren't half-strength) provided the following requirements: the reacting unit may not have already fired Reaction fire this phase, the target unit must be in range (duh!), the target unit must be moving (saving fixed Howitzers!), and the target must be in LOS for two consecutive hexes (though the first need not be in firing range). Reaction fire is optional. Units cannot combine strength during reaction fire, except for two or three squads of stacked Infantry. Ogres, lasers and cruise missiles could not use reaction fire, Heavy-Weapon Infantry use their normal weapons and not the missile. Sudden new thought: since some units are worthless in reaction fire (like the time I tried to stop a Super Heavy Tank with a bunch of Light GEVs), how about an optional Reaction Move (read: Retreat) where a unit eligible to fire Reaction Fire may instead move one hex away from the approaching enemy??? It may move one hex into Defense-doubling terrain even if moving closer to the enemy. Comments????? Garth L.
