============ OGREverse list, Nov 14th (Last: Nov 11th) ============= ===== Where are the mega factory complexes? From: Trey Palmer ===== OGRE Tread Units From: "David R. Crowell" ------------------------------ From: Trey Palmer Subject: Where are the mega factory complexes? I'm noodling around with possible Factory States era stuff and was considering where the mega factory complexes (those capable of producing Ogres)are. From the timeline in GURPS Ogre, I found the following: Mexico City, Detroit, Hangchow, Vladivostok, Tokyo, Houston, Gdansk, Volgograd, Ruhr, Seattle-Vancouver, Sheffield, and Gotha. What I want to know is where are there likely to be others? Tokyo-Osaka seems likely, as does Northern Italy, and there are likely to be a few in South America, based around Combine South and Pan-Europe based facilities. Any other bets from folks out there? ===== Bowden "Trey" Palmer Sneering at something is an admission to failure. You are claiming superior talent or insight ... but declining to use it. The best way to "sneer" at something, if you must, is to improve or out do it. E-mail: trey_palmer@yahoo.com ----- [There is likely to be a factory north of present day Tokyo and another in the Osaka area. Generally any major port area in Japan is a good candidate, given their resource constraints. (The Nagasaki nuclear weapons plant has an odd ring to it. ;) As for South America, I thought that no native production of OGREs was ever made. They were just assembled from prefab parts in giant maquiladoras. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "David R. Crowell" Subject: OGRE Tread Units OGRE/GEV and Ogre Minis use two different systems of movement. In Ogre/GEV Ogres move M3 or 3 hexes of clear terrain (for MK 3 & 5); in Ogre minis the same units have a base move of 6 inches. Total Tread Units in each game are divided evenly into the movement factors to give the number of Tread Units per Movement Factor, since units in the two games have two different movement rates the total number of Tread Units had to be adjusted slightly. Ogre mini's is as has been pointed a different game thean Ogre, which is in turn diffreent than GEV. Nothing stops anyone who prefers Ogre/GEV from using miniatures instead of counters on a very large hex-grid. This seems to be the approach the new Ogre deluxe edition is taking. On counters for new units: Perhaps we will see rules and counters for new units in Ogre Battlefields. I for one hope its more than just new maps and scenarios, although both of those are welcome. Too bad a counter sheet won't be included with the new Ogre Book. ----- [From scanning the sjgames.com website, it seems that Battlefields is already in production, with no mention of new units. It would be entirely possible for Steve to offer a PDF version of a countersheet with lots of unoffical units on his website for everybody to print out and paste on heavy stock, but you could always draw your own on blank counters, as I have from time to time. (Nothing like the face of your foe, when you dig out a hundred Militia counters.) Hey lookit, I got a mention in the OGRE book excerpt, http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/products/ogrebook/ -HJC] Henry J.
