Sooo, > Paul, if you're reading this right now, any thoughts on when the material > from the old Killing Zone playtest might see the light of day for all? (And, > if by some chance, wild marmosets and rabid devil poodles have eaten all > copies at SJ Games, just drop me a line and I will be happy to send you MY > copy.) I've got a copy, and I've read through most of it. The material needs to be published (and soon!), but I think a major reorginaization is warranted. Also, I haven't found any achives of the playtest comments. Any clues to where, and if, there were stored? (Don't you wish everybody used Emacs?) -HJC] ============================== From: Stephan Beal Subject: BYOO: "relaunch" Howdy, all, The BYOO (Build Your Own Ogre) site has been re-designed, rewritten, and, as it were... relaunched (no pun intended, honest). It is now hopefully a bit more useful and informative. You can now get an overview of all Ogres' stats very easily and view, edit or copy each one with a click. Note that there is no security whatsoever on who edits what (except for Ogres flagged as "SJ Official", which can't be edited). If the lack of security becomes a problem I will be forced to take BYOO offline, because I'm not about to spend a lot of time being y'all's moms and locking the gun cabinets. So... please play nice. It's only a game, after all ;). http://byoo.rootonfire.org (Blessed be PHP and MySQL) Complaints, suggestions, sacrificial virgins, etc.: you know how to get them to me. I've got pictures of the boards I made as well as infantry and even a couple of OGREs... More coming soon. not terribly soon, but soon. http://aslum.tripod.com/ogre/ -Yanni ============================== From: "Herb Diehr" Subject: In Defense of Dim AI Well, the idea has caused a spark, but let's try this idea again... I'm not postulating a STUPID Ogre, or SLOW, but rather one not as brilliant as the normal ones. This is seen mostly in it's EW. I'd think adding one to all fire in and subtracting one from all fire out would suffice. I really think Ogre Goliaths would be a good role for this, but few others. I'd hate to see this idea get out of hand. Herb Diehr The Dire Wolf ===== [Speaking of stupid... (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Kamikaze GEV! While reading through GURPS OGRE, I noticed that the warhead for the Ogre Rattler missile is lighter than the main gun on the LGEV. So why not mount that warhead on the front of a LGEV and drive that shaped nuclear charge into a point blank ramming attack? The stats are Atk: special, D: 1, Move 4/3 as GEV. The KGEV "attacks" at the end of the first round of overrun combat by ramming the target and destroying itself. (The defender gets to ram first in overruns. The only effect in this case is that they get to choose which target the KGEV blows itself up against.) Note that the other side will always get to fire first against the KGEV in the overrun, if they can't find a better target to fire on instead. If the target is an Ogre, roll two dice and if the total is less than or equal to the Ogre's current movement in inches (or multiply speed in hexes by two) the KGEV blows itself up to no effect, otherwise it inflicts twelve tread units of damage. (Six point warhead, doubled for the "reflex" effect.) If the Ogre has no remaining tread units then roll a twelve point critical hit attempt to crack the beast open. Non-ogre units lack the reflexes to dodge a shaped nuclear explosion and so simply roll a twelve point attack against them. (I suggest that tanks should carry full loads of infantry on top...) Ironically the only use of the KGEV was by fanatical Chinese and later American pilots against the Nihon empire. The cost of this unit? Anybody for 3 VPs? -HJC] Henry J.
