============ OGREverse list, Jan 12th (Last: Jan 5th) ============= ===== Monster Counters From: ewmarkle2@webtv.net (Ed Markle) ===== Ogre Humor? From: "William Spencer" ===== Keep on Trucking From: Thom Jones-Low ===== Boxed Sets From: "Alan and Carmel Brain" From: Steve Jackson ------------------------------ From: ewmarkle2@webtv.net (Ed Markle) Subject: Monster Counters What are the chances of one of the guys with all the cool tools on his PC createing a few counters? Specifically... Godzilla, Mothra etc. Now that I have the Ogre and supplements on hand, I'd like to trash Tokyo too. Thanks HC, Ed ----- [See that West End game for the counters and the rules are at: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/articles/pyramid/godzilla.html -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Ogre Humor? One of those idle musings struck me the other night, as I was _trying_ to drift off to sleep...you don't actually have to answer, I'm just throwing it out there as a target decoy, in the interests of wasting bandwidth... Do Ogres tell jokes? Sure, anyone can convert a human joke into Bolo-style cybertalk... ["HLV-0099 to TMX-6152: Query. Hypothetical situation: a Type IV Paneuropean GEV crosses a four-lane highway at a non-specific grid point. What is its tactical goal in taking this action?" "TMX-6152 to HLV-0099: Re: Hypothetical. I can surmise several possible situation-specific answers to the problem. What is the GEV's intended tactical goal in this particular case?" "HLV-0099 to TMX-6152: Re: Hypothetical. The afore-mentioned GEV's goal is to attain a position on the opposite side of the highway." "TMX-6152 to HLV-0099: Re: Hypothetical. A surprisingly simple answer. I express my amusement."] ...but what would an Ogre find funny? Probably unusual or ironic tactical situations, I guess; they ARE battle machines, after all. I do recall that GURPS: Ogre mentions an Ogre that tells jokes: the Vulcan combat-engineering cybertank. (The Vulcan will point one of its smaller maintenance arms at a human and offer to arm-wrestle...and then lower a large MAIN arm if the human accepts...) This suggests an unusual style of post-War role-playing campaign: a wandering cybernetic night-club performer...(Or a biphase-carbide travelling bard? Do Ogres sing, too? I think I need to get more sleep...) ------------------------------------------------------------ William Spencer williamspencer@hotmail.com ----- [Do they dream of electric sheep? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Thom Jones-Low Subject: Keep on Trucking > From: "Matthew D. It was actually a three person scenario. The combine had a small force of GEVs. The Paneuros had a larger force, but of hovertrucks, Infantry and a few GEV. The third player was a somewhat damaged Ogre MKIII. So the two players had to decide to co-operate against the Ogre, or kill each other. And the scenario also had a story with it. I still have it lying about with my other GEV materials. -- Thomas Jones-Low tjoneslo@together.net ----- [Both Iron Mountain and End Game are in the new book. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Alan and Carmel Brain" Subject: Boxed Sets > From: "Walter O'Hara" > Subject: Santa Claus was berry, berry good to me... > > To paraphrase Chico Esquela. > > Underneath the Xmas tree this year was a box of DELUXE OGRE, much to my > delight. What a WONDERFUL job I had the same thing, from a visitor from the US. Thanks, Kevin! It spurred me to setting about finding all of the various blister packs I've had lying around unpainted for yonks. Plus all the minis that have been in white basecoat, some for years. I now have a decent battlegroup for both Combine and PE. Combine: 6 HTs (2 old Ral Partha), 6 MTs (2 old Ral Partha), 6 of what are now going to be Medium Tanks (old Ral Partha LTs), 9 GEVs, 5 Light GEVs, 4 Mobile Howitzers, plus a Howitzer. And 5 Mk IIIs, 2 Mk Vs, 2 Mk Vbs (Martian Metals), and a Mk IVa. PE: 18 GEVs, 3 GEV-PCs, 4 MTs, 4 LTs, and a Mobile Howitzer. And 5 Fencers. For the Combine Medium Tank, I suggest an attack strength of 3, range, defence, move all 2, and you get 3 for the price of 2 armoured units. > Questions: > Can you purchase more individual figures (or group blisters of same) I'd like much the same. ----- From: Steve Jackson Subject: Boxed Sets X-UIDL: dc336c6430a920d14a10f7b41d88187d >Will there be a GEV release on the same scale? I'm GEV-Happy, myself..). >Can you purchase just the bases for infantry? Yes and yes. Individual figures will be sold in W23, but this will lag a month or so behind boxed set releases, so we don't skim the cream off sales before the retailers can get their share. >Will SuperHvy, Light GEVs, and other Shockwave Stuff be made available at >some point? You betcha. >From: "Walter O'Hara" >Ack! you mean there won't be SJG police at tournaments to chuck out >non-official armies? (believe it or not, there is a certain figure company >that does this...) Nope... In fact, when we do the new edition of the Ogre Miniatures rules, we will be photographing some things you can't even get any more, and maybe even some things by other companies. This is a game book, not a catalog. >From: "Matthew D. Coming. Already being sculpted. Not sexy on their own, but you need them for scenarios.
