====== Ogre Digest, August 11th (Last: August 8th) ======== ===== OGRE D20 From dgallant@startech.com Thu Aug 8 08:24:26 2002 ============================== From dgallant@startech.com Thu Aug 8 08:24:26 2002 Subject: OGRE D20 Henry J. Cobb wrote: > Would you buy OGRE D20 if it was offered? Failure means 20d6 + (Ogre Mk X 100) damage. Ouch! Is it _my_ fault I play Ogre and D&D D20? 8-) -- Daniel Gallant ===== [As promised, here is the list of Ogre discussion areas I know about on the internet. If you'll know of any others please let me know, OK? -HJC] ============================== Ogre Digest This list. URL: http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/ mailto:ogre@sjgames.com Traffic: Very light, 4 mailings in the past month. Pros: Archives have many years of spam free OGRE/GEV/Battlesuit discussion. Cons: Psychotic overbearing moderator. Updates are sporadic and often delayed. The policies are unclear. No threading. ============================== Ogre Message Boards SJGames first web based bulletin board for OGRE. URL: http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/board/ Traffic: Medium, less than 50 posts in the past month. Pros: Open, no hassle posting. Good separation of discussion by topic. Cons: Overrun by spammers and no active moderator. No search function, not even google. (See http://www.sjgames.com/robots.txt) Threads are sorted by first post rather than last response. There are some other free URLs at Evil Stevie's that you ought to take a look at like http://www.sjgames.com/gamerfinder/ but these are not discussion groups per say. ============================== Pyramid discussion groups SJGames online magazine and usenet-like discussion groups. URL: http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/ Traffic: Light, 13 posts added to the Ogre sections in the past month. Pros: This is SJGames' preferred discussion area and Paul Chapman is far more likely to respond to posts here than anywhere else. Playtest material, including the Ogrethulhu rules, is available to Pyramid subscribers. Hidden away in a dark corner is an online OGRE playing MUD. Message boards can be read through both the web and any decent news client. Cons: It costs $15.00 a year. (Yeah, like that's gonna break somebody who's paying at least $100.00 a year for internet access...) Most of the focus of Pyramid is on roleplaying, so OGRE gets very little coverage here. (In the past three months there's been one article in the magazine section on OGRE.) ============================== Rec Games Board Usenet newsgroup on board gamming in general. URL: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=rec.games.board Traffic: High, over 300 posts in the past month. Pros: Very wide distribution. Lots of client and server software works with Usenet. Cons: Slow to spread updates over the internet. No moderation and plenty of spam. Very little ogre discussion. ============================== Yahoo Groups Ogre discussion on groups.yahoo.com URLs: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ogre-GEV http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OGRE-Miniatures http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFBay_OGRE Traffic: Medium, 17 / 21 / 63 posts in the past month Pros: User signup and light moderation keep out almost all spam. Quick, but limited search function. Includes member useable file area. Most active OGRE gamer discussion area that I am aware of. Cons: Most of the traffic is on the SFBay_OGRE board (even for general Ogre discussion) and so a lot of crossposting occurs. Threading is rather weak. Subject to Yahoo's contempt for privacy and human rights. Massive amount of ads. (If I notice this even with my browser settings...) ============================== List Moderator: Henry J.
