I vaguely remember that doctrine assigned this weapon as a BATTALION level support unit, so theoretically, a short colonel or even a major could have started WWIII... ============================== From: "Hunt, Kirk (Tucson)" Subject: Nuclear "Grenades" If this concept doesn't keep you awake at night, you need to have your sensibilities/ethics meter checked AND adjusted. Desertcat ===== [Actually sensibilities have changed. Can you imagine defending LeMay or Sherman before the International Criminal Court? Of course in the game if you kill a few million innocents while destroying a railroad bridge it's a good thing. -HJC] ============================== From: Andrew Walters Subject: Click-base Ogre/G.E.V. >... don't have time to paint, Painting is fun. You can do as good a job as uninterested slave labor pretty easily, or trick a nearby kid into doing it. But, to each his own. I like having a custom army. But, that said, I don't have a job and I have a lot of unpainted lead-free minis around... > I also get a kid like thrill poping open a booster to see >whats inside. I'll give you the collectible version of Ogre. I'll buy a bunch of sets wholesale, mix'em up, and you can buy them from me. Regular price, even. Be sure and tell me which units you want to be rare and I'll keep a few for myself! > [Charged particle weapons are no fun in such a dense atmosphere as >ours. We could fix the atmosphere, but then the GEVs wouldn't work. Andrew ===== [Sure would fix global warming too. As for Minis, the bare naked Mark I is now available from WH23 and has a 21% percent chance of beating in the open the 6 LGEVs that match the (real world) price. -HJC] ============================== From: Sumnerd1234@cs.com Subject: Mines >Another aspect of mines topic not covered in OGRE is the artillery deliverable ones. HJC wrote: > Yes, but how long does it take them to deploy the mines? You should see the load a Combat Engineer is expected to carry now. I've seen them carrying several satchel charges, banglor torpedoes, mines, breaching gear, weapons ammo, etc. The weight was well over 100 lb. With a battlesuit on, and engineer drones to help carry equipment, a few small Antipersonnel mines and one AT mine wouldn't even bother them. As for how long it would take, It takes me a bout two to three minutes to emplace and "arm" a mine during training. With assistance from drones, plus I'm guessing the mines are smart enough to bury themselves, I figure no more than 1 to 2 turns at the most, should be needed to mine a hex. Ok, here's what I came up with for FASCAM rounds. It's posted at: http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/articles/ds_newunits.html Field Artillery Scatterable Mines-(FASCAM): Field Artillery Scatterable Mines-(FASCAM) are special artillery rounds containing a load of nuclear mines. Each FASCAM round contains enough sub-munitions to mine a 1 hex (2" in diameter) area. Players must state if they are firing a standard or FASCAM round before firing. The number of rounds available should be determined prior to play beginning. FASCAM rounds can be purchased at ½ a VP per round. ==== [And I had just finished updating the search function on my page (URL below). I'll have to remember to check next time.
