====== OGRE Digest, December 15th (Last: December 10th) ======== ===== Ogres in space From: "Chris French" ===== Weapon Effects in Ogre From: AvaheilDotter@aol.com ===== Aim for the tower? From: David Morse ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: Ogres in space > Ha! If GURPS Ogre says its true, then it must be false! =) Indeed. GURPSifying any game is a sure course to rules-lawyering and other munchkin activities. (I find it hilarious that _The Munchkin's Guide To Power Gaming_, published by SJG, reserves a special place in its heart, so to speak, for "the munchkin-beloved _GURPS_".) > I've read some of the Bolo books, and I have to disagree with the Idea > that a tank could stand up to essentially unlimited orbital bombardment > abilities, especially from opponents who don't care about spillover fire. > Or damage to the ecology. No, no -- the idea is to use _OGRE_ units to represent spacecraft. In this case, spacecraft that actually have to deal with reaction drives.... CF ============================== From: AvaheilDotter@aol.com Subject: Weapon Effects in Ogre << > [The GURPS Vehicles design I'm working on for the Gremlin LGEV > carries four Hypersmart missiles on hardpoints under those huge wings. > Each of those missiles is 3,000 pounds and a cruise missile warhead is only > 127 pounds. -HJC] A 127-lb. warhead leaves a 1.5 km hole in the map? Egad. >> Need to follow the tech a little more closely. The size and weight of a nuclear bomb is suprisingly low, it is the SAFETY equipment that surrounds it that is heavy... Ad Astra! Stan Leghorn ===== [Just think of the nuke as being a chemical explosive a thousand times bigger, with radiation, etc. -HJC] ============================== From: David Morse Subject: Aim for the tower? On a Ogre, what is the effect of the conning tower, and how hard is it to destroy? ===== [In the OGRE/GEV games the tower is simply factored into the game stats for an Ogre. The designs in GURPS OGRE are so flawed that a tower hit is the FIRST thing you do to any Ogre with a tower. (Would Odysseus have been a LGEV pilot if he served in the Greek army of 2075?) I propsed an optional rule for Ogre Minis way back at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/1998/gevsep22.txt and some more comments were made at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/1999/gevjun07.txt (Gotta love the list search function on my homepage.) And if you look at the back of the Ogrethulhu box you'll see another use for the tower, that's something completely different. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions or mailing list changes or problems to ogre@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
