I'm sorry -- I'm going to have to kill you. :) As for what the tower is for -- my copy of _OGRE Miniatures_ says that Huscarls (Paneuro Mk. Vs) were sometimes built sans tower. So it seems the tower is just there as a decorative feature. (Also, _OGRE Book_ 2nd ed. has a preproduction drawing of the OGRE Mk. V that *does not have the tower* -- where the tower should be, there is only an exhaust plume from a missile.) CF ===== [Oh, I'm sure that if you read the complete archives you'll find much better reasons to kill me. Evil Stevie didn't have a real clear vision of what an Ogre would look like at that point, other than being big and mean and just because Europe does something usually does not indicate that it is a good idea, no? -HJC] ============================== From: "Louis Wardlaw IV" Subject: lads, disputed crossing & ceasefire collapse Hey, It just so happens that I lost the lad rules just as I got the miniatures. If someone could tell me once again what they do I would appreciate it. I was also wondering if they would ever come out with the light howitzer model. Is the light howitzer in Ogre Miniatures ok for use in the modern version? Would the Howitzer model make a good proxy for it? I played disputed crossing about 6 or so times on either side and I noticed something, the attacker rarely wins. It would seem to me that getting all missile and superheavy tanks would be the ideal tactic. I was also wondering if the fuzzy rule was intended for all the scenarios or just those in the ogre scenario book #1. And finally, the ogre map set does not really go into any detail for setting up ceasefire collapse on the other maps. Does anybody have some suggestions for this? I also found that ceasefire collapse favors the defender, is there any way to encourage one player to attack? ===== [LAD Rules: http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/2002/gevoct31.txt Use the LAD miniature with the light howitzer rules and you'll be much happier, especially against superheavy tanks. For Disputed Crossing, see my Unauthorized Battlefields Repair Kit at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/2001/gevapr16.txt but don't mention it to Evil Stevie. It would be a little difficult to apply the fuzzy rule to the original OGRE game, but once you've got HWI, GEV-PCs and LGEVs it doesn't hurt that much. (Insert fuzzy munchkin comment here. ;-) A very large map with a spacing rule for command posts (say at least 20 hexes apart) would give a real advantage to offensive tactics, but I'm beginning to suspect that most players do not see how to leverage the innate advantage to attack that the GEV rules have. As an example, if one tank out of a group suffers a disabled result and the rest of the group advances then they get to counterattack and the disabled tank is left behind to recover and later it will rejoin the group. But if the group retreats they do not get a counterattack and the disabled tank is left behind to be Xed off on the opposing player's turn. Also advancing lets a force selectively apply overruns. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions or mailing list changes or problems to ogre@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
