====== Ogre Digest, July 11th (Last: July 4th) ======== ===== Ogre Digest Stuff From: "Noah V. Doyle" ============================== From: "Noah V. Doyle" Subject: Ogre Digest Stuff >I'm sure that everybody's just out taking one last chance to look at >the world before the banana dispute between NAFTA and the EU escalates to >tac nukes. -HJC ;-] Well, I'm still mulling over Sea and Space Ogre, need to get to playtest some things. New kid kind of put the slow on that one. One thing I've been considering is flyers in Ogre. Granted, by canon, they're not really around much anymore, but I'd like to be able to show -why-, or at least give them some options. Fast NOE flyers (hover or not, I'm not sure yet), maybe shot down like cruise missiles, or maybe just a low D - 2, or 1, take shockwaves like GEVs, or worse. Gun/missileships and troop carriers come to mind. The Non-Ogre Ogre Map list will be updated eventually, a few new ones have come to light. Looks like we might finally have one of Israel, the area around Jerusalem. Other things to toss out: The Igo-Hugo method of turns grates on me. Anybody tried an alternating turn procedure? Any ideas for, or against? Noah ===== [There was this book that examined the effects of different play sequences in great detail, but that was a while ago and Steve Jackson Games hasn't reprinted it. (That's a pity because Richard III Rouse has just stolen the title for his own book. Time to call out the lawyers methinks. Oh wait, it's got a colon instead of a comma. There's no possible confusion surely?) For three major variations on turn sequencing, try Battlesuit, Grav Armor and SFB. (Note that SFB has all sorts of dangly little cases in the rules, Grav Armor feels like a zone of control game and Battlesuit makes me want to dig trenches and mount up heavy machine guns.) There's a review of Combine Set #10 - Fast Convoy at http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_6681.html And an article on a new military application for lasers at http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/science/07/11/science.landmines.reut/index.html I've seen some notes elsewhere about the Ogre scenario at Origins, but I guess everybody on this list missed it, no? -HJC] List Moderator: Henry J.
