====== Ogre Digest, May 11th (Last: May 7th) ======== ===== Combat Drones From: AvaheilDotter@aol.com ===== OGRE Buildings From: "Herb Diehr" ============================== From: AvaheilDotter@aol.com Subject: Combat Drones << Another quick question for the rest of you. I know the Israeli Golem is supposed to carry some type of combat drones. Why not allow other Ogres to carry some type of sentry drones to assist it in protecting itself from infantry overruns? They would be more useful in the smaller Ogres (MK I, MK II), or in situations where the enemy had huge numbers of infantry to through at an Ogre. >> I suspect the 1-1D1 AP would include these. Making them a seperate unit from the Ogre would increase game time and also remove what little use INF have in the game. Just like tactical armor games, INF is chosen last and at a MUCH lower amount than is historical. Ad Astra! Stan Leghorn ===== [Wait until you see the drone rules. (No, not the LAD style immobile remote controlled drones, the flying drones.) (Even though I don't much care for the current drone rules. They should either move as normal units or be subject to Cruise Missile style interception.) -HJC] ============================== From: "Herb Diehr" Subject: OGRE Buildings In scenarios with points allowed to buy things, how much are buildings? How does one go about incorporating buildings? Thanks! Herb Diehr ===== [This is well covered in Ogre Minis, chapter four. http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/miniatures/ (You did buy a copy before they went out of stock again, no?) Something I noticed this week, if I may quote from Ogre Minis page 13, about the Hovertruck it says "...the infantry unit is considered to be inside..." and Sockwave 3.02 "...are assumed to be riding inside..." so this is very clear and straight forwards. Now, take a look at the picture that was just posted for http://www.sjgames.com/miniatures/ogre/combineset10/ Note that Hovertrucks are flattops. (At least some of the Combine ones are.) There is no "inside" other than a small cabin at the front and no way are two squads of battlesuited grunts going to fit in there. Actually, the miniature is very nice and looks like a baby LCAC. (I wanna meet the painter of the Mark I and Mark II on the cover of Combine set 11. At last the Main Battery looks like a serious weapon.) But if you allow two squads to ride on top of the Hovertruck and operate like it was a compact version of the GEV-PC then the Ogre Minis point value for this sucker is way too low. Mark it up as 2.5 VPs and I'm happy. (Give it a 1/1 gun for self defense and it goes up to 3 VPs, perhaps this is a special escort version to help defend convoys?) -HJC] List Moderator: Henry J.
