====== Ogre Digest, May 30th (Last: May 23rd) ======== ===== House Call From: Sumnerd1234@cs.com ============================== From: Sumnerd1234@cs.com Subject: House Call Henry, I took the liberty of playing with the intro story for your scenario. Let me know what you think of the changes. A low buzz sounded through the company of Marines assembled on the deck of the carrier, NACS Chesty Puller. Something big had to be happening, the regimental commander was going to conduct today's briefing, and the Colonel didn't usually brief them. Combine doctrine assigned a screening or supporting role to infantry, even Marines, and the Colonel simply passed whatever pertinent information needed to be told to the grunts through their captain, but not this time. Colonel Smith stepped on to the carrier's deck, and surveyed the faces of the young Marines arrayed before him. He wondered how many of them wouldn't be returning from this mission, but then he stopped himself. These men knew the risks, they were all adults, every last one a volunteer from another unit, no one had forced them to be there. So he slowly took a deep breath, and began his briefing. "Men, today you're the main effort. This little spot on the map doesn't look like much, but intel has good reason to believe that it's the headquarters of the British Liberation Army, and Division thinks it's about time we paid those terrorists a house call. The French have shifted a sizable number of their first-line combat units from the Atlantic coast to cover other fronts, so we expect resistance to be minimal." "Once ashore, Alpha company will conduct the primary assault with Bravo Company in support. Alpha will then execute a diversionary operation, while Bravo takes up blocking positions and provides cover for you. Once the primary objective is secured, you will conduct a house to house search, checking every civilian's ID against a DNA profile and scanning in every data chip you find." "Upon successful completion of the search operation, you will execute a tactical withdrawal from the target area, rendezvous with your extraction craft, and conduct a linkup at sea with the carrier. At this time Capt. Miller will give you individual assignments. Good luck and God bless the Marines." ===== [Looks good to me. I've only got one real nitpick here. The GEV-PCs are the extraction craft and they should never get too far away from the grunts. This is straightforwards Ship To Objective Maneuver, made possible by using an all hovercraft force. So the way I see it the Marines wake up before dusk, suit up and check their equipment then hop on the GEV-PCs for a quick trip over the ocean, crossing the beach around midnight. Well screened by GEVs, the grunts stay mounted until the objective area is reached and then hop off to search through the garbage of the poor and infamous and accost random street punks then they hop back on the GEV-PCs and are back to the carrier before dawn to visit some other scenic location in Europe the next night. http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/science/05/23/combat.drone.ap/index.html -HJC] List Moderator: Henry J.
