DeBiase" Subject: Ogre PC Game Hey man, Looking for the PC version of Ogre. Any ideas where I could hunt? Any help appriciated. Thanks! njd225@nyu.edu ===== [Normally I'd say eBay, but it doesn't seem to be offered there at the moment. I'm sure there ought to be a few stores around you with used computer software. -HJC] ============================== From: Sumnerd1234@cs.com Subject: This, that, and the other. A little slow at work, so... I figured I'd generate a little message traffic. Just out of curiosity, what's everyone's favorite GEV scenario? My personal favorite is Ceasefire Collapse, with a combined Raid/Breakthrough scenario coming in a close second. The reasons I like Ceasefire collapse are: 1) It's a straight up slugfest. 2) Both players have roughly and equal chance to win (as long as they both are at the roughly the same level of play). While I'm at it, what's your favorite "official" Ogre? For some reason, I have prefer the Fencer. I can't tell you why, I just like it. I still don't see why everyone has a problem with an Ogre missile launcher - Attack 3, Range 4, Defense 3, VP 8, or a smaller version Attack 3 (or maybe 2), Range 3, Defense 2, VP 6. They could be used in the place of Ogre Main Batteries and Secondaries. I've heard the "If an Ogre could mount missile launchers, then why doesn't everyone?" line, but it just doesn't work for me. I look at it like this, maybe the designers just preferred to use guns as there weapons system. A perfect example is air defense systems. Currently The US does not field any type of antiaircraft gun. It's all missiles, but most of our European Allies field both gun and missile systems to back each other up. One last thing, between all of the guys (girls?) that post here, Pyramid, and the official Ogre site, I wonder if we could come up with some type of unofficial Ogre source book? It would compile rule variants, new units, fiction, background material, etc. It would have to be nonprofit, and we should obtain permission from SJGs, but I don't really think they would have a problem with it. What do you say gents? ===== [Actually it would be nice to expand the online articles section at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/articles/ the problems are that there isn't anywhere to submit "full scale" ogre articles to at the moment except Pyramid, the recent Pyramid articles don't get copied to the Ogre articles page and there isn't anybody available to really maintain that page. -HJC] ============================== From: Sumnerd1234@cs.com Subject: Fencer Raid scenario Here's an idea for a scenario. Start out with the standard set up for Break through. Set Up You will need two GEV maps. Linked together The attacking (PE) player gets four (4) Super heavies, and 8 heavy tanks, and 1 Fencer. All of the PE player's armor units enter the map, with the exception of the Fencer, enter the map as on the on the first turn. The Fencer can enter between the forth and sixth turn. The defending (Combine) player sets up as outlined in the Advanced Break Through Scenario on the first GEV. On the Second GEV map the Combine player sets up forces as outlined in the Advanced Raid Scenario. In addition he has an additional 24 points of infantry. Rolls for reinforcements twice on his turn. ============================== From: Fish Flowers Subject: Signs of the Ogreverse Working my way through the pile of Jane's sitting on my desk, I came across this, from the 7 August 2002 issue: "US DoD push for laser, microwave weapons" I'll not post the entire story here (messing with the copyrights of people who know waaay too much about guns is generally a bad idea), some interesting quotes: "Mike Booen, vice president for directed-energy programmes at Raytheon, said that high-powered microwave (HPM) and laser weapons are 'on the verge of moving from the science and technology phase into the tactical platform phase'." "However, the fielding of weapons-capable solid-state lasers is still considered to be eight to 10 years away." And so forth. Looks like they're mostly thinking of deploying them in USAF aircraft, though, to use against hardened ground targets. Obviously the DoD doesn't play enough Ogre. Fish. ===== [Naw, missile defense.
