(This may explain why > the Last War accomplished exactly nothing -- I haven't seen > judgment this bad since Germany in the 1940s.) Or our decision NOT to modify the turret ring and mantlet of the Sherman to take the 90 mm AA gun because of fears of assembly line disruption and petty bickering over doctrine....:-( Of course hindsight is 20-20... Ob Ogre. any Ogre/GEV canon (pun intended...:-) ) that reflects poor strategic decision making like this? ===== [Infantry? The Combine building Mark Is instead of superheavies? (Note that in GO, the superheavy does cost as much as five Light Tanks.) Or continuing to build Mark IIIs after the III-B? -HJC] ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: One Page Bulge > [SJGames was making noises about rereleasing OPB as a boxed game and > then everybody saw the pricetag. Yeah, I found the page yesterday. $20? Have gallon-size Ziploc bags been taken over by the Procurement wing of the Department of Defense? Would it be asking too much for SJG to just take _OPB_ and make it available as "shareware"? Great Cthulhu.... > I'd like to see the SJ classics released as a bunch of games on one CD > for $30 or so. Just to get their name out to the PC or console gaming > crowd. -HJC] Do you mean as full-on computerized board games, or as "print-it- yourself" normal games? ===== [I was thinking as computer games. Imagine the impact Raid on Iran for the game consoles would have right now. -HJC] ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: Henry's Pyramid Article. > My main goal was to show the basis for the 3/1 infantry platoon in > GURPS terms and I also worked out exactly how to do that 8 minute mile > militia while lugging around nuclear missiles. I always figured the development of "Davy Crockett" weapons ne- cessitated BS development (NOT THAT KIND OF BS, YOU CRETINS! :) ). > If my SATNUC fixes are accepted the next trick is to figure out how to > rework Battlesuit so that it is compatible with both GEV and GURPS and > usable for miniatures. -HJC] OOH! OOH! OVER HERE, HENRY! OVER HERE! (Inasmuch as I've only been trying to do exactly that for six or seven *YEARS*.... :) ) CF ===== [Battlesuit has several weakness that keep it from supporting vehicles, like not separating the effect of ECM from armor. So I was thinking of starting from GURPS and using 4 second turns and 1/288th scale. (Eight yards to the inch, about the same as the Ogre Minis.) Then for each figure only extract the GURPS stats that matter (combine sensor skill and scan rating, use aPSig) and have a simplified damage table. Call it SATNUC (Saturation Nuclear Cluster munition), put the stats for all the common Ogre units up front (with pictures of the minis) and the GURPS conversion notes in the back. -HJC] ===== From: "Eric T. or Maryann C. Holmes" Subject: Re: Henry's Pyramid Article. Henry: Since I don't get the Pyramid, will you publish the article anywhere else? Eric ===== [That's up to SJGames now. If you're really into GURPS then you probably should subscribe. Otherwise my article wouldn't do a lot for you because it's all in GURPS terms. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions or mailing list changes or problems to ogre@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
