====== OGRE Digest, Apr 13th, 2004 (Last: Apr 10th) ======== ===== Ogre Miniatures by Gray Cat From: "Richard Kerr" ===== Cruise Missiles From: David Morse ===== Rise of the Machines From: hcobb@io.com ============================== From: "Richard Kerr" Subject: Ogre Miniatures by Gray Cat Henry has asked me for an update on the Ogre Miniatures project, so here is where it stands: Gray Cat Castings will be producing the Steve Jackson Games 'Ogre Miniatures' line for sale through Warehouse 23. I've run into some delays, but I'm fairly sure I can get the metal items back on the virtual shelves by June 1. (possibly sooner) The Ninja, Doppelsoldner, and Vulcan have been completed and mastered. I am hoping all three will be available by the end of the year. The resin buildings are at this point still under evaluation. They are not economical to produce, but I will probably at least do small runs for the sake of the loyal fans. There have been several inquiries about the missle crawlers. The masters for the original PE version which we aquired from Ral Partha are unusable. I would prefer to go back to square one on the design for *both* and do them in CAD like we did the newer Ogres and other vehicles. This will require time and money not currently available. Sounds like you've actually *tried* this. Whoa. Bold! > Whereas giving OGREs "the Davy Crockett option" (referring to > someone's brilliant idea of creating nuclear hand-grenades...) > means LGEV forces die spectacularly, LT forces slightly less so, > and "normal" forces just sort-of shrug and keep hammering. > > Oh, and keep a couple other points in mind: First, each time the > OGRE fires a missile, that's 12 VP; and second, if the non-OGRE > force can get close enough, the OGRE faces the likelihood of > suffering "backblast". And third: if you launch and get swatted before traveling 0 hexes, the Ogre has a 1/6th chance of being replaced by a crater counter. Ouch!! Really, if your in a general scenario, and plan to take an Ogre, and are worried about GEVs, just take a slightly smaller Ogre and a few Off Map Cruise Missiles (OMCM). Instead of a Mk V, take a IIIB and two OMCMs, and I assure you, you'll have no problems with 50 LGEVs. I think they'll have to line up to fight the Ogre 8 at a time, and that's not much fight at all. Hmmm... I smell poll. ===== [I have tried it and the problem with 50 LGEVs isn't firepower, it's catching the things. Stun a group then pull up and apply the secondaries that otherwise wouldn't have any targets. -HJC] ============================== From: hcobb@io.com Subject: Rise of the Machines http://www.foreignpolicy-infocus.org/commentary/2004/0404machines.html > Sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the > Mar. 13 “race” was part of the Department of Defense’s (DOD) plan to make > one third of the military’s combat vehicles driverless by 2015.
