====== OGRE Digest, June 3rd, 2004 (Last: May 31st) ======== ===== The alignment of Ogres From: "Chris French" From: Todd Zircher ===== Deluxe Ogre questions...infantry From: Andrew Walters ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: The alignment of Ogres > [Back to Ogres, what would be a good scenario with a wakeup moment? > > I can kind of see an Ogre stuck in a paradox where it has to overcome > its programming in order to accomplish its mission and then it's not its > mission anymore. -HJC] Um, I'd have to say there's *no* good scenario like this for _OGRE_ proper -- this sounds more like a _GURPS OGRE_ event. I believe the novel _The Road To Damascus_ has a Bolo in this sort of predicament, but I've not read it yet. CF ===== [Speaking of Bolos, did anybody else glance at this headline: FBI Mueller: BOLO warning http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/library/news/2004/05/sec-040526-fbi-mueller.htm And conclude that the FBI just wasn't the right force to take on a BOLO? -HJC] ===== From: Todd Zircher Subject: The alignment of Ogres > Back to Ogres, what would be a good scenario with a wakeup moment? It might make for an interesting story/scenario. I imagine that all Ogre brains are not installed in an Ogre body at wakeup, but in a VR environment that the brain can not distinguish from reality. Allow the brain to go psycho in a computer simulation rather than inside a chasis. In fact, I would not be surprised if all brains are placed in a Kobiashi Maru scenario just to see how they handle stress. -- TAZ ============================== From: Andrew Walters Subject: Deluxe Ogre questions...infantry My opinion differs. I think removable infantry are going to get lost. Or dropped and stepped on. So I glue infantry to pennies in 3-3-2-1 combinations: there's a single "2" and a single "1" for each *two* full platoons ("3s"). That's worked fine so far. You can put 1s & 2s on the board to start, so you don't have to buy more than maybe 10-20% more than you need to field, and at six for a dollar that's feasible. The other solution I like is to go to your friendly neighborhood hardware store or local home improvement supercenter and by "screw covers," which minis gamers pay more for in the game stores as "casualty caps." These cover killed squads or fired Heavy Weapons launchers. I like green, but you mostly find white. Lastly, after gluing infantry to pennies I use Sculpey to fill in around the bases, texture with the handles on my needle files, then bake, then prime the whole mess. Obviously there are as many different approaches to basing Ogre infantry as there are Ogre players, but mine is inarguably superior in every way. Andrew Walters ===== [Have you ever tried spreading out your infantry to one squad per hex? It is a nasty munchkin trick, but it works. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions to ogre@sjgames.com and mailing list changes or problems to ogre-request@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
