====== OGRE Digest, June 7th, 2004 (Last: June 3rd) ======== ===== Deluxe Ogre questions...infantry From: "Chris French" From: "Noah V. Doyle" ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: Deluxe Ogre questions...infantry > [Speaking of Bolos, did anybody else glance at this headline: > FBI Mueller: BOLO warning > http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/library/news/2004/05/sec-040526-fbi-mueller.htm > And conclude that the FBI just wasn't the right force to take on a BOLO? > -HJC] Well, since this country hasn't had an effective intel/security apparatus since the OSS, no, I don't think the FIB^H^HBI could take on a Bolo. Granted, a few homicidally loyal cybertanks would be really useful in convincing the rest of the planet to Sit Down, Shut Up, and Do As They're Told about now. > From: Todd Zircher > Subject: The alignment of Ogres > I imagine that all Ogre > brains are not installed in an Ogre body at wakeup, but in a VR environment > that the brain can not distinguish from reality. According to _OGRE Book Vol. 2_, this is what is done. It's called "Exercise K". > [Have you ever tried spreading out your infantry to one squad per hex? > > It is a nasty munchkin trick, but it works. -HJC] That depends on whether or not the opponent is stupid enough to drive into the middle of all that INF. Of course, giving OGREs proper nuclear-tipped missiles would end this practice permanently.... :) CF ===== [Ogre rulebook page 3, "Although an infantryman could carry and direct a tactical nuclear missile..." Oh look, here comes another Ogre! Ready, aim... As for why you have to to drive through these wandering landmines with nuclear missiles, let us consider the game of chess where knights can jump over a line of pawns then withdrawal when pressed to strike at a different location. Does that remind you of a certain armor unit favored by 21st century cavalry units? -HJC] ===== From: "Noah V. Doyle" Subject: Deluxe Ogre questions...infantry > [Have you ever tried spreading out your infantry to one squad per hex? > > It is a nasty munchkin trick, but it works. -HJC] Wait, wait, when did effective dispersal become 'munchkin'? :) ===== [When somebody's taking five minutes for each turn because their force is composed entirely of single squads and LGEVs. Speaking of infantry stacking, I thought I had the perfect counter for the SuperHeavy, six squads stacked in a town hex. Unfortunately the infatry have less than a 50/50 chance because the SuperHeavy always gets the first shot. So increase the pricetag of the monster tanks to 15VPs each and give infantry the ability to dig foxholes or something. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions to ogre@sjgames.com and mailing list changes or problems to ogre-request@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
