====== OGRE Digest, May 31st, 2004 (Last: May 22nd) ======== ===== The alignment of Ogres From: "Chris French" ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: The alignment of Ogres > From: "Daniel Gallant" > Subject: The alignment of Ogres > Ah, but remember Beholders are Lawful > Evil.[...] An Ogre > (cybertank) on the other hand, would be Lawful Neutral, The gag was that the Beholder in question was asleep, and Our Heroes were able to sneak past it. As for an OGRE's alignment -- that gets taken care of at the repair depot, usually with a laser-based alignment tool. :) > personal code (or in the case, programming) directs. An OGRE's personal code *is* programming. :) > For details on Alignments, see: Nonsense. Alignment can be summed up with one question: "Is it attacking us?" If "yes", it's Evil, and can be killed. If "no", it's Neutral, and should be avoided (or shot in the back). :) CF [All ethics are situational.] ===== [I loved Fry's question in the first episode about what Bender would do if his programming told him to jump off a cliff. Back to Ogres, what would be a good scenario with a wakeup moment? I can kind of see an Ogre stuck in a paradox where it has to overcome its programming in order to accomplish its mission and then it's not its mission anymore. -HJC] ============================== Send all submissions to ogre@sjgames.com and mailing list changes or problems to ogre-request@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
