It is proudly proclaimed on the box as the "Best CD-ROM Game of 932 A.D.," but Monty Python & the Quest for the Holy Grail is deserving of much more than that bit of false modesty. This is the funniest computer game I've ever played, period.

Everything a fan of the Holy Grail movie could ever want is in here. Digitized clips from the film are sprinkled throughout the game, with everything from the "Camelot" theme song to the instructions on the use of the Holy Hand Grenade to the ballad of "brave" Sir Robin. The producers, aided by Monty Python's Eric Idle, also make great use of lines from the original soundtrack throughout the game.

The game is structured loosely like the movie. After a 125-question registration (of which the first, oh, three or so are serious), King Arthur and his squire Patsy receive their quest from God to seek the Holy Grail. From there, it's off to the city of "Bring Out Your Dead!," the meeting with Sir Bedevere and the trial of the witch, the fight with the Black Knight, a round of taunting by the Frenchman in the castle, a thorough exploration of Castle Anthrax, an attempt to defeat the killer rabbit and a final test at the Bridge of Death. The payoff (which I haven't seen yet — I said I like the game, not that I've got it figured out yet) is a look at . . .
