House Rules:
Roles

Artist
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

From the starving artist who suffers for his craft, the guy who draws murals on pavements, to the recognised artist with works in many galleries, few roles demonstrate such a variance of lifestyle. Status can range the whole gamut from 1-6 (most being on the lower end of the scale), but they must all have Artistry.

Assassin
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You're a Hit-Man. You may work for an organised crime syndicate, do clean-ups for a government agency, or operate as an independent 'trouble-shooter' organising 'accidents' for various wealthy concerns. Status is 3-6, and you must have at least 2 skills from Knowledge/Poisons, Lockpicking, Move Silently, Ranged Weapon and Small Weapon.

* With a high enough Role Level, Assassins can often kill targets they are hired to eliminate by earthly concerns without generating Disturbance.

Bodyguard
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You guard someone else's life with your own, but the methods used by different bodyguards vary greatly, from the brutish tactics employed by the guards of local loan-sharks and mob-bosses, to the professional conduct of those who guard glitterati and VIPs. Status obviously varies a great deal (from 1-4), and the job requires a decent Perception (at least 4), and skills in Fighting and Ranged Weapons.

Bouncer
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Bouncers range from the scruffy thugs outside low-life bars, to the well-dressed thugs outside well-to-do restaurants. While some can be very professional about their work, others are less restrained. Status is typically 1-2; and this role requires a Strength above 5, and the Fighting skill.

Bum/Tramp/Hobo
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You're classed as one of the 'dregs of society', you'll never fit in, and you don't want to. Life is a day-to-day struggle, but no-one knows the cities like you do. Money and wealth? Who needs 'em? Status is 1 (and only just at that...), but you'll have Survival (Urban), and Knowledge (Home Territory).

Burglar
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Whether you're the local smash-and grab man, or the high class cat burglar, stealing wither keeps you alive, or gives you a helluva kick. Status varies from 1-6 (most obviously being 1), but a good Perception is needed to avoid being caught, and if you're a stealthy type, then Climbing, Lockpicking and Move Silently are invaluable.

Chef
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Perhaps you work for the local school or hostel, or maybe your exquisite creations grace the tables of the most exclusive restaurant. Maybe you even have your own show on television, or have releasedseveral cookery books. Status is 2-6, and the only necessary skill is Cooking.

Con Man/Grifter
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

These folk love to part the unwary with their cash, and range from the door-to-door 'salesman', to the puller of elaborate scams. While grifters are constantly on the move, even more sedate con men often have to leave their current whereabouts in a hurry. Status is typically 2; with Charisma, and the skills of Emote, Fast-Talk and Lying are invaluable.

Craftsman
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You could be a carpenter, jeweller, metal-worker, potter, tailor, gunsmith etc. etc. Status is 2-5, and the only necessary skill is Craftsmanship.

Debutante
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

The idle rich, constantly engaged in parties and gatherings, hobnobbing it with the 'cream of society'. Status is always 5-6 and it would be a major faux-paus if they didn't possess Savoir Faire. Charisma is also highly regarded, and gets you invited to all the best parties.

Eco-Warrior
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You fight to defend the natural beauty and resources of the planet from the depredations of ever-greedy Man. It's a thankless task, and sometimes it requires extreme measures. You'll never understand why Mankind puts itself before everything else without realising that in doing so it ultimately destroys itself. Status is generally low (1-3) as society sees many Eco-warriors as extreme nutcases, and doesn't like to be reminded of the destruction it inflicts. No real skills are required, but those of a more extreme methodology will probably have Explosives and Survival.

Gambler
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

From the local card-shark, to the high-flying casino-breakers, you know there is much more to games of chance than mere luck. Status is 1-6, and the Gambling skill is necessary.

Gang Member
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

From the simple street-thug, to the organised syndicates like the Triads, Yakuza, and Mafia, you make a living from crime, and probably have several ongoing rackets. Status ranges from 1-6 (with most being 1), but you'll be no stranger to violence. There are no prerequisites but the following skills are highly recommended: Fighting, Small Weapons, Ranged Weapons, Knowledge (Criminal Organisation), Knowledge (Home Turf).

Government Agent
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You're a suit, working for an agency such as the DEA, CIA, FBI, etc. While you may be able to call up some serious back-up and resources when you need it, juggling your life won't be easy. Status ranges from 3-4; and you're required to purchase Detect Lies and Ranged Weapons. Many other skills would be obviously useful.

Homemaker
(from Donald G Bixler <mudgb4@uxa.ecn.bgu.edu>)

From the harried single parent to June Cleaver or the First Lady, your job is one of the most underrated and necessary in the Symphony. Cooking is required, although a bit of Medicine (Band-Aids and Hydrogen Peroxide) and Charisma ("Donald _Gene_ Bixler, come here right this instant!") are helpful additions. Status is from 1 to 6, although the practical maximum is 3 unless you are the First Lady or something similar...

Hunter (non-supernatural)
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Maybe you work as a Gamekeeper or poacher; a Huntsmaster orDeer-stalker. Perhaps you are a wealthy traveller, bagging exotic beasts, or you could capture animals for sale, or just maybe for better concerns such as captive-breeding and release programs. Status is 2-6. Skills in Tracking and Ranged Weapons are vital, with Move Silently, Survival and a few Knowledge skills about animals also proving useful.

IRS Auditor
(from Andrew Getting <kestre1@airmail.net>)

Bend Over, Here It Comes Again. Outside of criminal spheres and the occasional police officer, there is no profession that causes greater fears in the hearts of the people. Accounting is theoretically necessary, but less so than high levels of mental ability to confuse your mark. A good knowledge of Law can make even an Angel think about joining the IRS, the better to take down those who cheat... Status is 1-3, but the IRS Auditor can rarely strike twice without raising suspicion...

Kid
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You're a child living in a world of grown-ups. While this gives you some freedom (and can let you get away with things no adult could), you may be stifled by adults trying to protect you from the world, and few people will really take you seriously. Of course, the lifestyle you lead determines your Status, but it'll never be as high as a comparable adult. Status 1-3 with no skill requirements. However, a few points of Charisma (the 'cute and innocent' effect) and Dodge wouldn't go amiss.

Labourer
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

You work like nearly every other mug, slogging your guts out, day in, day out, for a basic living. Perhaps you work on a building site, or maybe in a factory or any other unskilled, boring, and often low-paid job that forms the bulk of employment. Status is 1-2 and no skills are necessary.

Librarian
(from Donald G Bixler <mudgb4@uxa.ecn.bgu.edu>)

From the little old lady who give you the evil eye for being one day overdue to the nice college girl who does story time for the kids, your life is filled with books. Status ranges based on the kind of area you teach in, your reputation, and the people you teach. Typical Status is 2-4, and you need a Precision above 5, and at least one skill from Fighting, Small Weapon, Large Weapon.

Mechanic/Engineer
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Perhaps you're the local grease-monkey, repairing autos or tweaking mean street machines, or you could be the professional engineer, employed to help create and repair industrial machinery. Status is2-5, and the only necessary skill is Engineering, although Electronics is becoming increasingly useful.

(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Status can range from 1-5, skill in Knowledge/Religion is often useful, as is Charisma.

Parapsychologist
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

Needless to say, this can be very interesting work, and does give you an excuse for some of your other exploits. Status ranges from 2-5, Knowledge (Occult) is necessary and Electronics (all that sensitive equipment) is useful.

Poet
(from Psychedelic Goblin <942777u@merkland.rgu.ac.uk>)

From the artiste in the coffee shop, to the guy who screams and shouts on stage, your life if writing poetry to evoke meaning in the people who read it. Sadly, few ever make a real living out of it. Status 2-5 (rarely above 3) with skill in Poetry and Emote.

Models sell their looks, you sell your body. From the street-side hooker to the call girl or guy who has some powerful clients, you've seen the underbelly of life first hand, and found it's usually fat and corrupt. Status ranges from 1-5 (most being 1). You'll need Seduction, maybe (but not always) some Charisma, and, if you're a high-class operator: Savoir Faire.
